Carers Rights Day is taking place on Thursday 24 November.

The theme will concentrate on the costs associated with looking after someone – it could be the cost to Carers’ wellbeing, employment options, financial costs, or the cost to their quality of relationships. And the current cost of living crisis is being felt even more by Carers throughout the UK.

That’s why our Carers at Work Network (CAW) want to let Carers know where to get help. They have developed a short video to talk about the support available for staff across CNWL, so Carers can feel confident asking for what they need.

In 2021, the NHS survey revealed that one in three workers are carers, juggling their job with caring for loved ones. It also showed that over half of working carers feel isolated at work, and have lost touch with family and friends as a result of their caring role.

That’s why it’s important Carers understand and are able to access the support as soon as they need it. We want everyone to come together to spread the word.

The Network will be hosting a range of sessions across Wednesday 23 November and Thursday 24 November. View the programme here

Staff can find joining links on Trustnet by searching ‘Carers at Work’.

A snapshot below:

  • Join Hannah Witty, Chief Finance Officer and CAW Sponsor, along with Co-chairs, Sarah Hulme and Sian Aylett, to celebrate the Trust’s progress in supporting working carers. We’ll also be presenting CNWL’s first Carer Awards - celebrating managers who have gone above and beyond to help Carers in the workplace.

  • All staff are welcome to join a self-compassion session. Whether new to caring, or with many years’ experience, this will help open up your consciousness to the benefits of compassion and the costs of self-judgement.

  • This year CAW has teamed up with CarersUK to bring staff a session about the benefits and financial support available to carers and those that they are caring for.

We’d love to know what you're doing locally for working carers. If you’re joining any events, send us your photos by tagging @CNWLNHS and include the hashtag #CarersRightsDay #CNWLCarers
