BANGALORE: An unidentified man was found dead near Majestic area as heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning lashed Bangalore late on Thursday evening. The city received a record 130-mm rainfall in three back-to-back rapid spells in under five hours. A drizzle that began around 6.30pm intensified around 7.30pm, leaving people returning from their workplaces stranded across the city .
Around 8.30 pm, the Met department put the rainfall at 89.6 mm. By 11.30pm, the city recorded 130-mm rain. At least 20 trees were uprooted and 14 electric poles crashed. Waterlogged roads reduced vehicular movement to a crawl.
Bellary Road, KH Road, MG Road, Vittal Mallya Road, Cunningham Road and Richmond Road were the worst hit. The man found dead in Majestic area was said to be in his early 30s. The cause of the death was not known.
