Turnover up at packaging maker

Turnover has reached a six-year high at Huntington-based plastic packaging maker Charpak.

Newly filed accounts revealed the business generated revenues of £9.4m in the year to 31 December 2016 compared to £8.6m a year earlier.

A statement accompanying the results said the growth was down to "investment in technology, people and customer relationships in prior years".

Charpak's pre-tax profits also climbed to £377,737 from £262,167.

The statement added that while the food and drink industry is still Charpak's "main focus", it is also "actively researching" other markets.

"The business is well position for growth and the resources are in place to ensure this will continue in 2017," it said.
