San Jose Sharks' black cat finds home with Patrick Marleau
The cat that scampered across the ice at SAP Center during Stanley Cup Playoffs has found a home with San Jose Sharks forward Patrick Marleau.
Marleau’s wife recently tweeted out a photo of the cat, saying it has been jokingly re-named ‘Jo Marleau’ from being called ‘Jo Pawvelski,’ by the team.
The cat ran on the ice before Game 1 of the second-round of the playoffs between the Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks on April 29.
After the game, she was found underneath the stands by SAP Center’s engineering staff and turned over to the Sharks. They then started the process of trying to find a home for her and eventually gave her to the Humane Society Silicon Valley.
There she was checked for a microchip to determine if she had an owner. They also tried to make sure she was healthy in order to prepare her for adoption.
The cat was given a room at Humane Society Silicon Valley, decked out in Sharks colors.
On May 15, the Sharks announced Jo had found a home, but never said who adopted the cat.
“We are pleased to learn that ‘Jo’ has found a good, loving home,” said Sharks CEO John Tortora after the adoption. “I want to thank the staff and volunteers at the Humane Society Silicon Valley for the time and attention they have dedicated to ‘Jo’ and the other animals in their care. I also want to thank our fans who immediately expressed concern for the well being of the cat. I would like to encourage all fans who were interested in adopting ‘Jo’ to now consider adopting one of the other many animals at HSSV in need of a home.”
The cat became somewhat of a good luck charm for the Sharks, since the team came back and won Game 1 over the Predators. Eventually she became one of the fonder memories from the team’s postseason run to the Stanley Cup Final.

“The first priority was that the cat was found and then safe and now healthy and from that point on, we’ll have some fun with this and see where it goes,” Tortora said shortly after the cat appeared on the ice. “I saw some fans in the stands last night wearing cat ears, so they were getting into it and so the market will be energized by it.”
