Half-century of Mustangs to gather in France

| 23 Sep 2014

Up to 50 classic Mustangs will congregate in the south of France on 4-5 October to celebrate the model's 50th anniversary. The feat will be a joint effort between the Mustang Passion France and Mustang Racing clubs as part of the Dix Milles Tours.
Not to be outdone, fans of the Porsche 911 are also due to display 50 examples of the iconic sports car in a continuing celebration from the model's 2013 anniversary party.

It is expected that more than 600 classic cars will travel to the event from a variety of clubs, including the Retro Mobile Club du Castellet, Automobile Club Aix en Provence, Les Amis du Circuit Avignon Vaucluse, Alpine Club Méditerranée, Club Datsun France Sud, GT Provence, Var Auto Moto and Automobile Club de Nice.

At the Circuit Paul Ricard, the event will draw more than 260 classic racers spread over six grids, which will be competing over two days of races and qualification.

Dix Mille Tours

The glory days of the Ford GT40, Porsche 910 and Ferrari 512 will be relived in the Classic Endurance Racing field, which features prototypes and GT cars raced between 1966-'79. More than 80 cars are due to take part.

A Group C field will include the best that Jaguar, Porsche, Mazda and Nissan have to offer, while a new grid for this year's event – the Heritage Touring Cup – will cater for refugees from the European Touring Car Championship, including the BMW 3.0CSL and Jaguar XJ12C.

The Trofeo Nastro Rosso will comprise Italian sports cars from the late 1950s up to 1965, while the Sixties Endurance field will be packed with Ferrari 250GTs, Jaguar E-types and Porsche 356s.
