‘Breaking Bad’ style food truck busted serving tacos with ‘a side of meth’

Authorities in Colorado say they’ve busted a crystal meth operation so audacious, even Walter White and Jesse Pinkman might have had second thoughts.

No, it wasn’t a fried chicken restaurant, but a taco truck that, according to authorities, served up orders of crystal meth alongside their burritos and salsa con queso.

The bust was part of a larger string operation which Colorado’s Attorney General says is one of the largest in the state’s history.

“After conducting five wiretaps over five weeks, 55 pounds of meth were taken off the streets,” Attorney General John Suthers said in a press release. “The brazenness of this ring was astounding. For example, customers could literally walk up to a food truck and order a side of meth with their taco.”

Called “Operation Cargo”, the multi-agency investigation targeted the Gonzalez Drug Trafficking Organization, led by 37-year-old Juan Carlos Gonzalez.

According to police, Juan Carlos oversaw a large-scale drug smuggling operation which brought the crystal meth across the border from Mexico into California, to eventually be distributed in Colorado.

Police allege that once Gonzalez took possession of the drugs, he would distribute them via his two aunts to the various dealers.

One of those dealers, 39-year-old Maria Arellano, is the one police allege sold crystal out of the taco truck where she worked.

Police say the drug deals involved the use of code words and phrases in order to receive a “special” taco order.

“In this case, we heard coded language like, ‘six pack’ and ‘yellow cups’ to set up their transactions,” Deputy Attorney General Matthew Durkin told KUSA News in Denver.

Incredibly, police say the owner of the taco truck had no idea that copious amounts of crystal meth were being sold out of his truck.

17 people were indicted by a grand jury Monday as part of the massive bust, facing charges of conspiracy, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, distribution of controlled substance, money laundering and tax evasion, and a multitude of other criminal charges.
