TORONTO – A new poll has John Tory carving out a big lead ahead of both Olivia Chow and recent entrant into the mayoral race, Doug Ford.

A Nanos Research polls released Monday by CTV and The Globe and Mail suggests that, if the election were held that day, John Tory would win the support of 49 per cent of decided voters surveyed; Doug Ford would get 27 per cent of the vote and Olivia Chow, 24 per cent.

Doug Ford has yet to make much of an impact on the dent in the race despite officially having entered two weeks ago, Nik Nanos told the Globe and Mail.

“It means that there are people committed to the Ford Nation and Rob Ford and Doug Ford are interchangeable to them, without any negative fallout,” he told the newspaper.

The poll, which surveyed 1,000 Torontonians last week, echoes the results of a recent Ipsos Reid poll  which found 40 per cent of Toronto voters surveyed planned to vote Tory.
