Book App Helping Teens and Tweens Deal With Family Issues

Book App Helping Teens and Tweens Deal With Family Issues post image

Middle School Confidential is a series of books that help middle school age kids deal with sticky social issues, such as friends, families, and self confidence. They are available as books as well as apps. We reviewed the first two apps and the third book What’s Up with My Family was released recently. Help Middle Schooler Understand Family and Parents

I like the series very much. It is so practical that all the situations in the story are from real life. Kids can easily relate to the characters in the story from their own experience.

Here are some stories in the book:

Mateo is so annoyed that his family always have so many questions about what he did for the day. Do you hear your child say “give me a break”? How do you handle it when your child reacts this way to your inquiries about his day? This book uses the stories explain why parents and family care, and how kids could react to minimize the feeling that he/she has to report everything.

Abby feels her mom is always reminding her of her not perfect body shape and becomes upset and angry whenever her mom says or does something making her feel bad about her body. After a conversion with her aunt, she takes aunt’s suggestion and has an open conversation with mom, which helps mom realize the impact of her words and actions on Abby, and gives mom an opportunity to explain what she really means …

Some other stories in the book include dealing with step parents, freedom to go out with friends, controlling mood, …

After each story, there is always a short quiz. These are not typical quizzes. These are quizzes kids will all love to take. Because no matter what the kids’ answers are to the questions, there are always suggestions based on the answer they choose. If they pick the right reaction they will get praise and understand why it is a good choice. If they pick a not so good reaction, there will be an explanation why this is not good and kids are asked to try another option.
