Some Ithaca metered parking spaces were transformed into mini parks Friday in Ithaca.

PARK(ing) day originated in 2005 in San Francisco. Groups have held single space events in Ithaca since at least 2009. This year, at least seven spaces were planned; the first time more than one has been made in Ithaca.

Urban Planner David West and others at the STREAM collaborative work space began designing their showcase spot in July. Ithaca Carshare thought about getting their office couch out late this week for their space on Seneca Street.

The mini parks planned to be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
