My students need 45 frog dissection biokits.

What do you remember most about your middle school life science class? Chances are, your most vivid memories include exciting hands-on experiments and feeling like a real scientist as you held that scalpel over a specimen for dissection.
My students are all female 7th graders and are highly inquisitive of the natural world around them.
They greatly enjoy exploring science concepts through hands-on experiments, collaborative projects, and class discussions. They dream of becoming vets and doctors one day. Many read below grade level and have multiple high-incidence learning needs. Several are English-language learners. All learn best when they use visual aids and realia; when they work together in small groups; and most importantly, when they are able to see and interact with what they are learning in tangible ways. Our school is a Title 1 inner-city urban-charter middle school. Our student demographics comprise approximately 98% African Americans and 2% Hispanic. About 97% of students receive reduced or free lunch.
In science class, students will work in pairs to observe and dissect frogs for our Human Body System Unit. They will identify key structures and functions of different body systems. They will compare and contrast body systems of animals and humans. In addition, they will use their observations as evidence in their constructed responses to our year-long research question on changes and adaptations for survival.
Your donation to this project will provide our students with the opportunity to create memorable hands-on experiences in the science classroom and the potential to spark a life-long passion for science.
They will always remember that feeling of excitement, anticipation, and the thrill of discovery.
