Barangay to give away construction materials

The 78 families, who lost their homes in a fire in sitio Little Pasil in barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City last Tuesday, will soon get construction materials from the barangay.
Barangay Captain Trifonio Liquigan said the barangay will distribute the construction materials by Monday or Tuesday.
Each family will get P5,000 worth of construction materials which were acquired using the barangay’s calamity fund.
Liquigan will also meet today with the barangay associations and the Division of the Welfare for the Urban Poor inside the Purok 8 gym to discuss the reblocking of sitio Little Pasil.
At least two families couldn’t wait yesterday for the housing assistance, returned to their burnt houses, and set up makeshift shelters there.
A mother, who asked that she not be named, said her family of five have been persistent in returning to their burnt house because they have nowhere else to go.
She said this is where the family lived for nearly two decades.
Another family, a couple and their son, who also asked not to be named, said they are grateful for the relief goods from the city government and private companies.
¨Kontento ra man mi kay wala gyod mi nagutom unya naa pa pod miy stocks para among makaon sa sunod nga adlaw unya okay ra man pod ang among katulgan, naa ra pod miy tubig (We are satisfied with the help because we are not left hungry and we have stocks of food and water to tide us in the next few days),” said the 33-year-old husband.
The husband, who works as a service crew, said they were left with nothing but still he was grateful for the school uniform given to them, which could be used by their four-year-old son.
The 26-year-old wife said their first priority will be the housing materials, which the barangay promised to give them, so that they can rebuild their house.
She also said they want to have a proper drainage system in their area because the area gets flooded during heavy rains.
Barangay captain Liquigan, however, said that flooding in the area has always been a problem, and it’s not a new problem.
¨The area always gets flooded and I have already informed the city about this concern through the vice mayor,¨ said Liquigan in Cebuano.
