WATCH: Dramatic video shows NYPD officer saving choking woman

An officer with the New York City police department came to the rescue of a female driver choking on a cough drop Wednesday.

The dramatic video was captured on the officer’s dash cam and shows Highway Patrol Police Officer Gregory Zakoscielny following a Ford Taurus before it slows down and stops in the right hand lane of the Bronx River Parkway.

The NYPD, who posted the video on its Facebook page Friday, said officer  Zakoscielny pulled up behind the car and immediately noticed the driver, a 49-year-old woman, was having trouble breathing.

“Step out, step out of the car,” said Zakoscielny. “Are you choking? Are you choking?”

The officer then tells the woman to put her hands on her chest and performs the Heimlich maneuver that dislodges the cough drop blocking her airway.
