Creatures of Light

More specimens added!

A fascinating selection of specimens (live and preserved) have been added to our summer blockbuster exhibition, Creatures of Light: Nature's Bioluminescence. Visitors can gaze at mesmerizing live moon jellies (Aurelia aurita) or examine some specimens (fireflies, fish, lichens and marine invertebrates) that have been specially brought out from our national collections. The live emperor scorpion, desert hairy scorpion, beautiful fluorescent coral aquarium, and bioluminescent mushrooms are glowing additions to this "magical" show that really illuminates the topic of bioluminescence and fluorescence in nature.

NATURE EXPRESS renewed!

TD continues support for school program

For the third year, TD Friends of the environment is supporting the Museum's Nature Express program. This funding enables students from certain schools facing financial obstacles to visit the Museum and attend a curriculum-linked education program. Transportation costs are also covered. In 2013-14, more than 1,400 students benefitted from Nature Express (1,200 students in 2012-13). Wrote a teacher: "Because my students rarely ever visit a museum with family or even with school, this has been a wonderful environment for young ones to explore and learn. They are begging to come back!"
