JOINT BASE ANACOSTIA-BOLLING - A year before Senior Airman Jeffrey Johnson joined the Air Force he was struggling to make ends meet as a young father of three working at a health food supplement store.

Johnson said growing up he was always interested in computers, but he never really imagined he would do much with it, because he didn’t have the educational background to pursue his dream.

Nearly five years later, the Pleasant Grove, Utah, native now works in Information Systems for the 579th Medical Group on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB).

“An education in computers was something I wasn’t able to pursue while I was working and trying to take care of my family,” said Johnson. “Now, through tuition assistance, and of course the Post-9/11 GI Bill, I’m taking online classes."

The Air Force is a great way to go. It builds you into something better and helps you pursue your goals. The Air Force isn’t going to do it for you, but it sure will kick open the doors and make it easier.”
