OTTAWA – Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is praising Canada for its unwavering support for his country.
Poroshenko is on Parliament Hill to address MPs and senators after signing a co-operation agreement with the European Union that will deepen economic and political ties and turn Ukraine’s focus away from Russia.

NDP Leader Tom Mulcair is praising Poroshenko for his “strong leadership” but criticizing the government for not yet delivering on a $200-million loan guarantee to Ukraine announced last winter.

Earlier Wednesday, Harper gave Poroshenko a red carpet welcome to the Centre Block, before the two leaders moved on to the Prime Minister’s Office for a private meeting.
Poroshenko arrived in Ottawa on Tuesday night, hours after Ukraine agreed to grant greater autonomy to rebel-held parts of the country’s east.
