Police officer charged with domestic assault

Officer Christopher Cowan, an eight-year veteran of the Louisville Metro Police Department, has been arrested and charged with fourth-degree domestic assault.

He was arrested Saturday by the metro police’s public integrity unit, confirmed police spokeswoman Officer Carey Klain.

The charges stem from an incident with Cowan’s unidentified girlfriend early Saturday morning at a local bar.

Cowan has been placed on administrative reassignment and his police powers have been suspended, Klain said.

Cowan joined the metro force in August 2006.
