Summer is coming to an end, which means that the September 30th filing deadline for your EEO-1 Reporting is fast approaching. This is a good time to start getting ready, and below are some tips to help you prepare.

What is an EEO-1 Report?

An EEO-1 Report is the annual report that provides census type info on employees. It includes info on ethnicity, race, gender and job category. The information must be submitted annually to the EEOC’s Joint Reporting Committee by September 30th.

Are EEO-1 Reports Required by Law?

Federal contractors are required to file EEO-1 reports. As for other organizations, while there is no penalty for not filing, the EEOC may ask a court to issue an order directing that it be filed. It is highly recommended that all organizations file their report.

EEO-1 Reports: What is Included?

These reports must include:

  • Whether the business is a single establishment or multi-establishment.
  • The number of employees by race, ethnicity, and sex, listed under each job category.
  • Certification and any remarks. This lets the organization explain changes if necessary, and it can also be good for the organization’s own recordkeeping.
