Construction is underway at the Willowcroft property in Columbine Valley, and the model home should be complete in October.

The development will have 41 patio-style homes and one lot for a two-story home built by developer Taylor Morrison on 15 acres at 3600 W. Bowles Ave. Three other homes are already under construction.

Patio homes are smaller, often one-story homes.

“The rest they are building as they sell,” Columbine Valley town administrator J.D. McCrumb said.

Taylor Morrison vice president of sales and marketing Brian Cartwright said the construction began in late July. The best-case scenario is for the three homes under construction to be finished by the end of the year or very early in 2015.

He also said the lot for the two-story home is for the original owner, but that property is not yet under construction.

The Willowcroft development drew attention in the town last year as a group within Columbine Valley said the approved development plan allowed for a higher density than the land’s zoning designation. The town board said a special exception was made because of an abundance of open space in the plan.

A special election was held in December to ask voters if the rezoning should be repealed. Residents rejected the question, which allowed the development to move forward.

The land originally held the Willowcroft Manor, which was built in 1884. It was torn down last year.
