CALGARY – Police have taken one man into custody after he allegedly stole a city bus.
It happened on Wednesday, just outside of the Foothills Hospital in the city’s northwest.
The bus was stolen after being left running by its driver as he went on a break.
Police say a hospital patient jumped on board the idling vehicle and drove away.
Officers were able to stop the shuttle bus just a few blocks away.
“Anytime you have a stolen vehicle on the road there certainly is a public safety issue associated to it,” says Acting Duty Staff Sgt. Paul Wozney. “In this case the driving pattern seemed to be normal, or what would be viewed as normal.”
Police arrested one man, charging him with the theft of the Calgary Transit vehicle.
