Nashville-based Griffin Technology is the latest company to have its name land in Metro Nashville Public Schools.

Griffin has partnered with MNPS under the district’s Academies of Nashville program, giving it name recognition in exchange for its involvement in an academic program.

The high school: Hunters Lane. Students there can now choose an academy track called the Griffin Academy of Design and Technology.

Griffin, which creates accessories for home, mobile, education and personal technology, has already committed 1,000 man-hours to mentoring teachers and students over the past year at Hunters Lane High School.

The partnership will ramp up under the new agreement. Part of that includes a financial commitment — Griffin Technology has pledged $50,000 in volunteer work and equipment donations over the next year.

Since piloting the academies program five years ago, six companies have become naming-rights partners at Metro high schools: CMT, Gaylord Entertainment, Aegis Science Corporation and U.S. Community Credit Union at McGavock; Ford at Glencliff; and Tennessee Credit Union at McGavock.
