Congratulations to Dorothy and Donald Frank, who celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary Aug. 15. Lots of love and good health from your family and friends.

The weekend I’ve been waiting for has arrived. Jamesport Fire Department’s Sound to Bay 10K/5K run will be held Sunday, Aug. 24, at 9 a.m. Proceeds from the event and the raffle will benefit JFD and its associated community outreaches. Check-in and registration begin at South Jamesport Beach. 10K runners will be bused to Iron Pier Beach, where they will follow the race route back to South Jamesport Beach. 5K runners will begin and end at South Jamesport Beach. Registration is $25. An online form can be found at jamesportfd.org/#event. Raffle tickets are still available. First prize is $2,500; second prize, $,1000; and third prize, $500. Winners will be chosen at the post-run gathering at 10:30 a.m. at South Jamesport Beach. To purchase a raffle ticket, send your name, address and a $20 donation to P.O. Box 78, 25 Manor Lane, Jamesport, NY 11947. Make checks payable to “Sound to Bay 10K” for both the raffle and the run. Direct online registration is available with a third-party vendor at flrrt.com/events.html. Scroll down the page to August events. You can also register on the day of the race at South Jamesport Beach.

The run is a great way to support the fire department and have lots of fun. I will be participating in the 5K run for the first time. In prior years, I walked the 10K. Despite some shin splints, I’ve been able to do a short run every other day. I turned 50 at the end of December and set some pretty significant goals, which I plan to fulfill before the end of the year. One of my goals is running the 5K. Hopefully, I’ll be able to push Johanna in the adaptive stroller as well. Come out and join us.

We had a lot of big events at our house this past week. Johanna turned 18! We celebrated with a backyard birthday party, which was great fun. Belated wishes for a happy birthday, Johanna, from all your family. I also want to wish my mom a very happy 90th birthday on Aug. 27. We threw her a surprise party last weekend.

If you have any news to share for the Sept. 4 issue please send it to me by Thursday, Aug. 28, as there is an early deadline!

It’s truly been a beautiful summer. Enjoy the rest of it and have a wonderful week ahead.
