Meet the members of the PHE’s incident management team at the Combating Legionella and Water Treatment 2014 conference in September and learn more about how you can protect the public and your organisation from legionella and other water borne bacteria.
In early June, Public Health England (PHE) were notified of Legionnaires’ disease in a neonate following a home birth in a heated birthing pool filled from the domestic hot water supply two weeks earlier. Read the manuscript here, in which PHE describes the incident, sampling results, and public health actions.
Professor Nick Phin, interim head of respiratory diseases department will be speaking at the conference about the latest trends and figures on legionnaires and other water borne diseases. He will be identifying conditions that contribute to the outbreaks.
Legionella microbiologist Sam Collins will be discussing new developments in rapid testing and how to overcome the stumbling block of interpreting results. Dr Jimmy Walker, an expert in water system microbiology and decontamination will be speaking about new fundamental research which looks closely at where and why water borne pathogen reside in your water system outlets.
