The House approved a legislation to overhaul the nation’s health care system earlier this month, and the Senate is expected to vote on its version by Christmas Eve. What remains to be done before a health care bill reaches the White House. A detailed comparison of the different plans.»

*Mr. Dodd was acting as chairman of the Senate health committee while Senator Edward M. Kennedy, the Massachusetts Democrat, was fighting brain cancer. Senator Tom Harkin, Democrat of Iowa, succeeded Mr. Kennedy as chairman of the committee after his death. But Mr. Dodd will continue to play a central role in crafting a health care legislation.
