Monday links from around the rest of the SEC, outside the state of Alabama:

Arkansas: The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's Matt Jones writes that the Razorbacks' starters shined in a weekend scrimmage, with quarterback Brandon Allen throwing two touchdowns.

Florida: While Jeff Driskel is back for his third year as Florida's starting quarterback, the biggest competition remaining in Gainesville may be between freshmen Treon Harris and Will Grier for the Gators' backup job, according to the Orlando Sentinel's Edgar Thompson.

Georgia: Hutson Mason completed 22 of 31 passes for 204 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a scrimmage on Friday, but the Macon Telegraph's Seth Emerson writes that Bulldogs coach Mark Richt called his offense's performance "frustrating."

Kentucky: With the Wildcats' naming Patrick Towles their starting QB today, the Louisville Courier-Journal's Kyle Tucker lent some insight into Towles' offseason work by linking back to a story he wrote earlier this month.

LSU: Tigers coach Les Miles was happy with his team's progress -- particularly the offense -- in a 120-play scrimmage on Saturday, according to NOLA.com's Jim Kleinpeter.

Mississippi State: The Bulldogs got a visit last week from former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jerome Bettis, who talked to them about what it takes to be a champion, according to the Clarion-Ledger's Michael Bonner. MSU cornerbacks coach Deshea Townsend played with Bettis in Pittsburgh.

Missouri: Georgia's offense wasn't the only one in the SEC that left something to be desired in a weekend scrimmage. Ditto for Missouri, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Dave Matter.

Ole Miss: The Rebels got some bad news on promising cornerback Tee Shepard. According to the Clarion-Ledger's Hugh Kellenberger, Shepard will miss the season as he undergoes surgery for a torn tendon in his big toe.

South Carolina: The State's Josh Kendall writes that visiting Texas A&M fans have found what they think is the perfect spot for their traditional Midnight Yell before the Aug. 28 season opener in Columbia -- the South Carolina State House.

Tennessee: Alabama's Derrick Henry isn't the SEC's only super-sized running back. Tennessee freshman Jalen Hurd also breaks the mold at 6-3, 221, writes the Knoxville News Sentinel's David Climer.

Texas A&M: If the Aggies beat South Carolina by 10 points or more, a furniture store in College Station will pay for any furniture bought at the store between now and Aug. 27, according to the Bryan (Texas) Eagle.

Vanderbilt: With a new coach in Derek Mason, the Commodores have redecorated their football facility with a nautical theme, the Tennessean's Nick Cole writes. "We feel like this football team has a bunch of sharks on offense, defense and special teams," Mason told Cole. "And sharks want to take their prey to deep water."
