One Secret Love + One Misdirection and Multiple Situationships = Courting Country

Taggart Bauman has secretly loved Kylie Gordon since they were young, but she married his best friend. When Kylie is widowed, Taggert promises to take care of her. And even though he could be free to profess his love, he chooses to keep his feelings a secret. If Kylie knew that he'd failed to save her husband, she'd never forgive him. He knows, because he can't forgive himself.

After being alone for so long, Kylie believes an online dating service is her last chance at finding love. But she continually finds herself in "situationships" that require Taggert to rescue her. When at last she reconnects with Eldon Wenz, an old friend from their college years, she thinks perhaps this is finally her second chance at love...but just in case, she asks Taggert to accompany her when she travels to Eldon's ranch.

But sometimes things are not what they seem, and when one more situationship crops up, Taggart vents his resentment and tells Kylie she needs to work out the choices she's making.

Will Taggart lose Kylie forever, friendship and all, or will Kylie realize that what she's been searching for has been right in front of her the whole time?

I am thankful my mother read to me, enabling me to read at age four. Life is as hard as it is pleasurable and I love to read stories about true-to-life characters. The desire to write should never be ignored, I am so glad I kept returning to the blank page. I am blessed to live under God's redeeming grace, and to experience Nebraska's sense of place.

It is not unusual today for people to go on dating sites to find a mate. After my mother died, my dad moved back to his home state. He told me he had purchased computer. I knew right away what he was up to. Sure enough six months after my mother passed, my dad got remarried. Yes he found his new wife on the internet. My dad was lonely and I now understand why he went on the dating site.

Kylie is a widower and has not been on a date in a very long time. She gets talked into putting a profile up on a dating site. Now there are several things wrong here. If she would only look right in front of her, she would see her dear friend Taggart. I did laugh when she goes out on a date with someone she knew in high school. Oh my, Eldon is not for her at all. His place was dirty, animals not taken care of and he just gave me the creeps. Poor guy tried with lovely emails he sends Kylie. However there is a secret about those emails. When Kylie finds out the secret, she is angry, hurt and disappointed.

The story is all about second chances. The most important one in the story is the second chance to reconnect with God. There is a good amount of faith in the story and although I liked it, I felt it was a bit preachy at times. I did like how the author illustrates how we can miss up, but God is there to give us another chance. It is a sweet story and I love second chance stories.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Taggart Bauman has secretly loved Kylie Gordon since they were young, but she married his best friend. When Kylie is widowed, Taggert promises to take care of her. And even though he could be free to profess his love, he chooses to keep his feelings a secret. If Kylie knew that he’d failed to save her husband, she’d never forgive him. He knows, because he can’t forgive himself.

Will Taggart lose Kylie forever, friendship and all, or will Kylie realize that what she’s been searching for has been right in front of her the whole time?

My Thoughts: This is a lovely love story. It's about finding love in the most unlikely places. Taggart and Kylie have known each other forever it seems, but will Kylie ever realize that Taggart loves her? What will it take? Readers will love this novel, it's full of love, it's about coming back to the Lord. The characters in this novel are easy to relate to as well as the story-line. Readers will certainly enjoy this novel.

Will these two friends get a chance at love? That’s the basis of this novel, which definitely is reminiscent of the tale of Cyrano de Bergerac. In Courting Country, Taggart poured out his romantic feelings toward Kylie in a series of emails, however, Kylie believed these emails came from a mutual friend that they both knew years ago.

I felt for Taggart. He had loved Kylie for years and desperately wanted to be more than just her best friend. But Kylie was lost in so many ways. She had drifted away from trust and belief in God and she was desperate to find a man to share her life with due to her loneliness.

It was clear that Taggart was the man for Kylie, but it took awhile for her to wake up to the idea. It was also very clear that the other man, Eldon, was in no way a good match for her.

There were plenty of humorous moments and a good faith message throughout the story. I, personally, struggled to connect with Taggart and Kylie and found myself frustrated with decisions they made. This made me less invested in their happily-ever-after and simply hopeful that they could work their way through the various issues that came up.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I learned a new word while reading this novel and I think I’m going to be using this word quite a lot. Situationship. It’s a situation. But it comes up in a relationship or possible relationship.

We’ve got two characters. Destined to be together of course but life has pulled them apart. Or rather they have pulled apart because they didn’t or couldn’t let their true feelings be known and life and love passed them by.

Kylie and Taggert are friends. Kylie married Taggerts best friend even though he’s always been in love with her. Taggert couldn’t save his friend’s life and he feels guilty for that and feels since he can’t forgive himself that Kylie also can’t forgive him which leaves them no relationship even before it can start.

I enjoyed meeting all the potential men in Kylie’s life and seeing how Taggert was able to save her each time. It was fun to watch them finally come to terms with each other. Such a fun romance read. I hope you enjoy it as well.
