Toxic Pesticide Injected Into Corn

Monsanto, described on their website as a “sustainable agricultural company”, has been merging a toxic pesticide into the DNA of corn to create a particle that kills any insect that ingests it.

Bacillus thuringiensus(Bt), a soil bacterium that is commonly used as a biological pesticide, has been merged with corn genes.

What Is The Significance Of this Pesticide?

There really is no significance in using this pesticide excpesticidesept the predetermined notion that farmers won’t have to spray quite as many tons of poisonous pesticides into the air, but what about ingesting this pesticide?

Research shows that the use of genetically modified crops is actually driving up the use of pesticides and herbicides because insects are becoming immune to them.

With corn being used in almost everything today like tortilla chips, toothpaste, gravy, cereal, ice cream etc., genetically modified (GM) corn has significant adverse effects on the liver and kidney functions.

Doctors and scientists have also noticed problems with metabolism, heart, spleen, and adrenal glands.

Does Bt Only Affect Insects?

When an insect (like caterpillars) eats the Bt, the toxins dissolve and attack the gut cells of the insect, punching holes in the lining. The Bt spores spill out of the gut and germinate in the insect causing death within 24-48 hours.

Although, infected caterpillars may not die for several days, they usually stop feeding immediately because their digestive tract is paralyzed by the activity of the Bt spores.

Monsanto’s corn is grown in the environment and toxic pollen is blown around which contaminates the nearby milkweed where monarch butterflies are fattening themselves up for their transformation.

However, when the butterflies inhale Bt corn pollen their stomachs explode, but Monsanto insists that their corn is safe for human consumption. But how?

If Bt is affecting insects and ruining their digestive system who’s to say that mass consumption of this genetically modified corn won’t be detrimental to human health in the near future?
