Portrait of a Young Man, possibly Giuliano de' Medici

1465-1470
Sandro Botticelli (Alessandro di Mariano Filipepi) (Italian (active Florence and Rome), 1445–1510)
Images of handsome young Florentine men, particularly those popularized by Botticelli and his school, projected an image of a city full of youthful energy. This portrait may represent Giuliano de’ Medici, who was assassinated in 1478 in a conspiracy against the Medici family and their governance of Florence.
