Students throw Senior-Senior Prom for local retirement community

Robert E. Lee High School sent its students out to do some good deeds on Friday, taking seniors on a trip down memory lane.

In honor of community service day, they volunteered at animal shelters, cleaned up neighborhoods and stopped by the Legacy at North Augusta, a retirement community in Staunton.

The senior students still have a few months to go until their own prom, but that didn't stop them from throwing a Senior-Senior Prom for their new friends.

"Made me think back to the good old days!" said Max Lockridge, who was crowned prom king.

"The boys were kind of bashful as usual. But the girls, boy do they like to dance!" said Dorothy Briehl, who was crowned queen.

Hand-in-hand, the party goers danced along to the classics and few of the golden oldies.

"There is a man here who's like 98-years-old he's killing it on the dance floor," said Oshie Mellon, senior at R. E. Lee High School. "We were dancing in a circle and he yelled to one of my friends 'shake it but don't break it' and I just thought it was the cutest thing!"

About 60 residents and 35 students participated in the event.
