Syracuse, N.Y. - Thick fog is lingering in some Upstate New York valleys this morning.
The NASA satellite above shows the serptentine nature of the fog, especially along the river valleys of the Southern Tier.
The National Weather Service has issued an alert for heavy fog in some of those areas.
"Dense fog in the valleys has formed this morning and allowed visibilities to drop to a quarter mile or less," said the weather service office in Binghamton. "Travel conditions will remain potentially hazardous ... through 9 a.m."
