New Yorker Cartoons in Augmented Reality

Date TBA

Ever been curious what your laptop really thinks about your browsing history? In “Animate Objects,” an augmented-reality feature from The New Yorker, you’ll discover the secret thoughts of everyday items, as interpreted by the wry and discerning cartoonist Liana Finck. Hear how The New Yorker conceived of and executed this project, reimagining the classical 2-D cartoon for the physical world around you. Learn about the limits of machine learning and object detection for mission-critical items—like differentiating a sock from a banana—and how A.R. and spatial audio allow you to enjoy the socially observant (and occasionally neurotic) New Yorker cartoon in a whole new way.

Programming descriptions are generated by participants and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of SXSW.
