WOODCLIFF LAKE, NJ--(Marketwired - August 29, 2014) - LinkedIn has become a daily habit for a majority of professionals, according to a survey by talent mobility consulting firm Lee Hecht Harrison. The results revealed that 57 percent are active on LinkedIn each day.

Lee Hecht Harrison surveyed 895 professionals via an online poll in August 2014 asking, "How engaged are you on LinkedIn?" The survey identified:

"LinkedIn has become a part of our daily work routine," said Greg Simpson, Senior Vice President for the career transition practice at Lee Hecht Harrison. "More than just a resource to manage contacts, LinkedIn opens doors to people, information and opportunity that were once hard to find. It's changed the dynamics of the labor market. Everyone is now more 'career aware' and more inclined to build a network. We're better informed and connected."

According to Simpson, those who are not engaging or rarely engaging on LinkedIn could be losing out on potential career opportunities. "With nearly all companies now turning to LinkedIn to find passive as well as active job seekers, it's clear that an individual's presence on LinkedIn is an important career management tool. With the shift away from job boards and search firms, hiring companies look to LinkedIn to cultivate their own talent pools. Companies are developing talent pipelines by building relationships over time with talent, which challenges the legacy view of 'networking' into a position."

Moreover, Simpson sees once-reticent professionals becoming much more adept at navigating social media. "With time, training and practice, people have become more confident and are now finding their own voice. Many are moving from content consumers to content creators. This empowerment definitely plays a big role in how and when people engage. With the promise of new opportunity, LinkedIn may become a habit that no one will want to break."
