Course Overview
This course will equip you with core knowledge in using CBCT-based diagnostic & treatment planning technology. This will include the whole digital workflow. You will be introduced to the use of intra-oral scanners and surgical guides.
Learning Outcomes:
- Evaluate the role and application of DCBCT Scans
- Evaluate the role of the digital workflow in dentistry
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of digital work flow in treatment planning
- Critically discuss the role of 3D surgical guides in guided surgery techniques
- Provide immediate loading protocols using CEREC Chairside
- Critically analyse application of CAD grafts
Structure
The course will be delivered in 10 days over an 8 – 10 months period and will include two modules.

Facilities
The ICE National Reference Centre for Digital Dentistry, in collaboration with Henry Schein, will provide all necessary hardware and equipment for the course including:
- CBCT Scanner
- 3 shape intra-oral scanner
- Chairside CEREC AC technology
- Surgical navigation systems
- Software and 3D printers.
ICE is also introducing stand alone lecture days on digital dentistry for dentists interested in improving their skills and knowledge in specific areas within digital dentistry.

Dr. Julian Caplan (BDS)
Dr. Julian Caplan qualified from Sheffield University in 1988. He is a Director on the board of the BACD, a senior instructor for the Larry Rosenthal Aesthetic Continuum course and lectures internationally on CAD/CAM dentistry, specifically CEREC®. His St. Albans based practice, Aviva Cosmetic Dentistry, is a private dental practice aimed at providing high-end cosmetic and functional dentistry. CEREC® dentistry is utilised to produce bot anterior and posterior restorations to meet the high aesthetic demands of his patients
Dr Simon Chard [BDS (Hons), BSc (Hons)]
Dr Simon Chard qualified with Honours from King’s College London Dental Institute. He has a practice limited to cosmetic and implant dentistry at Rothley Lodge Dental Practice, which he co-owns with his wife Dr Meghan Chard. In 2015, he was voted the Best Young Dentist in London and also the overall Best Young Dentist in the UK at the prestigious Dentistry Awards. In 2018, he was selected as the 22nd most influential dentist in UK dentistry as voted by the profession in Dentistry Magazine. Simon sits on the board of directors for the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and has a strong focus towards achieving optimal aesthetic results utilising minimally invasive techniques. Simon is a key opinion leader for digital dentistry and lectures internationally on digital workflows in cosmetic, orthodontic and implant dentistry.
Dr. Jameel Gardee (BDS, CAGS)
Dr Jameel Gardee graduated from Glasgow University in 1995 with commendation and distinction. He was resident in Boston Universities Goldman School of Dental Medicine in the Department of Restorative Sciences graduating in 2001 in Advanced Restorative, Aesthetic and Operative dentistry. Jameel is a partner at the Glasgow Smile Clinic where the practice is limited to advanced cosmetic, restorative and implant cases since 2002. He is a Digital Design Master and Instructor under the Christian Coachman, one of the founding members of DSD UK and is also a member of the NewSkin team under Master Paulo Kano. Jameel lectures and provides hands on course worldwide on photo/video protocols, the DSD concept, guided implant surgery and the application of CAD CAM technology in anterior aesthetic restorations and full mouth rehabilitation.
Mr Simon Harvey
Mr Simon Harvey is a Consultant in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology at Guy’s Hospital, London and Queen Victoria Hospital, Sussex. His subspecialty clinical interests are dentoalveolar cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and salivary gland interventional radiology. A passionate educator, Simon is an Honorary Lecturer at King’s College London, the largest dental school in Europe. He is published in several peer review journals and has co-authored a best-selling textbook on CBCT, translated into 4 languages. With being an examiner at The Royal College of Surgeons, he sits on the committee of the education charity ‘Teeth Relief’. He has an interest in dentolegal disputes and holds a Masters degree in Medical Law and Ethics from the King’s College London School of Law.
Dr. Alif Moosajee
Dr. Alif Moosajee is the owner of the prestigious Leicester-based dental practice ‘Oakdale Dental’, which provides dental implants, orthodontic treatment and facial rejuvination along with cosmetic and general dentistry. Alif prides himself on being able to present complex ideas in a very simplistic and accessible way. His focus is on digital dentistry and implants and he provides guided implant treatment with a fully digital workflow and loves how this marries his 2 biggest passions.
Dr Sinead McEnhill [BDS MSc(Imp Dent) MFGDP(UK) Adv Dip Imp Dent RCS(Eng) FICD]
Dr Sinead McEnhill is the director of Belmore Dental Implant Clinic, which was awarded Irish Practice of The Year 2017, and Best Team Ireland 2017 and Best Team UK North at the Private Dentistry awards 2017. In addition, it was awarded runner-up Best Aesthetic Practice at the 2018 Aesthetic Dentistry Awards. Individually, Sinead received Best Implant Multiple Award at the 2018 Aesthetic Dentistry Awards for a case of full arch teeth in a day, utilizing a fully digital workflow.
She is a board member of the Digital Dental Society UK, a global network dedicated to education in research and evidence based digital workflows. Sinead is also a previous tutor and practice assessor for the RCS(Eng) Implant Diploma. She lectures across the UK on digital workflows for dentists in implant dentistry and has a number of published articles on the same topic. Whilst focusing on mentoring dentists hoping to excel in the field of digital and implant dentistry, she simultaneously attending world renowned clinicians for training to improve her own clinical skillset. Sinead attained an MSc in implant dentistry from Leeds University in 2016 where her research was related to peri-implantitis. As recognition of her focus on dental achievements and philanthropy, Sinead was inducted as a fellow into the International College of Dentists in 2015.
Prof Simon Wright (MSc, PGDip Dental Implantology, BDS, PGCTLCP, FHEA)
Prof Wright has been a principal partner of Glencairn Dental group of practices since 2002. He is a Founding Director of both Dental Implant Resource Ltd, and the ICE Hospital and Postgraduate Traning Centre. He completed the Trafford One Year Implant Course in 2004 and has gone on to complete his Diploma in Implant Dentistry and his MSc in Dental Implantology.
He has a personal chair at the University of Salford, awarded for his practice and teaching in Dental Implantology. He is the Clinical and Module Lead for the Masters of Dental Implantology at Salford and Edge Hill University, and lectures nationally and internationally for Astra Tech, Straumann, the ITI, Mersey Deanery, and on the MSc courses at Salford, Manchester, Cardiff and Sheffield. Furthermore, he has been invited as a keynote speaker to many national and international Congresses and Forums. He is the co-author of the National Standards in Implant Dentistry – to be published later this year.

Patient Related Outcome Measures (PROM)
Prof Wright has gained national recognition for his work developing tools to measure PROM in dentistry. He is the chief clinical investigator of multi-centre research project investigating the ways that we can measure the benefit of dental implant treatment. He has developed an online patient tool, to audit and report upon the effectiveness of dental treatment. This is being developed for use in all areas of dentistry
Peri-Implant Disease
Prof Wright has written the algorithms that have been adopted as the standard protocols for the treatment of Peri-Implant disease. He has established a recognised referral centre for the treatment of both Mucocitis and Peri-Implantitis. Prof. Wright has co-authored the 2 guidance papers which have become established as reference papers in their respective domains. He is currently the clinical lead, investigating the outcome of a series of a case studies.
Human Factors and Implant Dentistry
Prof Wright has a keen interest in surgical performance and has been invited to the participate in the first ‘European Congress About Human Factors and Medicine’ in Paris. He has developed Human Factors as a major research theme at the university and is leading the National Drive for Patient Safety.
Prof Wright was also the Director of Education for the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI). Implant Dentistry is a postgraduate discipline and the structure, content and delivery of the Education and Training Programmes of the organisation is the responsibility of Prof Wright. He was also Editor of ARK, the online ADI Educational package.
Prof Wright also has a keen interest in teaching and is a trainer for young Foundation Dentists and nurses. He has written many courses for nurses and dentists, and has been gained his Postgraduate Teaching Certificate and Fellowship to the Higher Education Academy. He has personally trained and mentored over 800 Dentists and Nurses, and currently hosts the regional Study Clubs.
As well as Implant Dentistry Prof Wright is passionate about the NHS, and is very involved with dental politics. He has recently retired as the Chairman of the Local Engagement Network for the Wirral (the committee that advises on NHS Dentistry), the Wirral representative of the Local Professional Network (the local branch of the Commissioning board for the Department of Health), and a member of the Dental Reference Group (advising on contractual issues). He currently sits on the Local Dental Committee, and is passionate about quality and access within the NHS framework.
Dr Ioana Datcu
Dr Datcu graduated in 2007 with honours from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy), and has completed implant training courses in Italy, New York, and Brazil. She is a member of the Digitial Dentistry Society, Italian Academy of Osseointegration IAO, Leading Ladies in Dentistry LLD, and an active member of the DDR Education Programme in collaboration with Dentalxp and NYU Dentistry University.
Her main areas of expertise are minimally invasive implantology; digital dentistry and digital guided surgery; digital impression; pink and white aesthetic dentistry and soft tissue management around analogically and digitally placed implants; digital workflow and periodontal and prosthetic complex rehabilitation.
Dr Datcu currently runs a private dental practice in Ravenna (ID Dental Clinic) which focuses on fixed prosthetic dentistry, periodontology and implant dentistry, and also collaborates with other practices on implant surgery. Her professional philosophy is based on the principal that her values guide her actions and behaviour.
Her work is her passion, giving her the energy and enthusiasm to keep up-to-date on the latest techniques and guiding her in the new digital era to integrate minimally-invasive approaches that offer optimal treatment for her patients.
Dr Datcu gives a range of courses in her field around the world: China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, and has also worked as a clinical tutor for implant surgery training in Portugal. She lectures at international congresses and has co-authored articles in Italian and international scientific publications.
Prof. Cemal Ucer
Cemal’s current clinical research interests include immediate implant placement, reconstructive bone surgery, nerve damage and the effect of bone density on the success of implant treatment. Academically, he has gained European recognition for his work on the development of a new framework for teaching and assessment of clinical competence in implantology. He is a co-author of the consensus paper produced by the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) following the first pan-European collaboration between EU universities to establish common training and assessment standards in dental implantology. He is an invited member of the working group convened by the FGDP (UK) and the General Dental Council (GDC) to update the Training Standards in Implant Dentistry (TSID) guidelines in 2012 and 2016.Cemal is a Fellow of the Dental Trainers Faculty of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) and a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and a member of Megagen’s MINTEC UK & I Board for education and clinical research. He is a member of the editorial board of JOMR (Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Research) and the chair of the editorial advisory board of Implant Dentistry Today. Cemal is Professor and Clinical Lead of the MSc programme in Dental Implantology and a member of the Faculty of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s Diploma in Implant Dentistry. Ashley Byrne (BSc (Hons) Dental Technology)
Ashley is the owner of Byrnes Dental Laboratory, a leader in modern dental technology. He qualified with a degree in Dental Technology in 2000 and started his own lab with his Dad in 2006. As early pioneers in the world of scanning and CAD-CAM, the lab has gone from strength to strength and now even has its own training facility. Ashley lectures on digital dentistry, and building a highly motivated team, and has spoken in countries as far as the USA, India and South Africa. Their training facility is one of the first of its kind, working to take school leavers through their technical education and to become world leading dental technicians. In his spare time Ashley is a keen cook and has a smallholding for chickens and goats.
