The Maruti Suzuki SX4 has received its first changes since its launch in 2007. The new car boasts of enhanced looks and an all new engine that comes with the advanced VVT technology. The new SX4 will also be available as an automatic as one variant of the new car comes with a 4 speed automatic gearbox.

Mayank Pareek, Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales) commented on the new car stating, "The new SX4 is set to raise its own benchmark in luxury segment, even further. The car's distinctive stance and style profile is characteristic of today's modern sedans. With a VVT engine, it is all set to send the adrenalin pumping while caring for the environment. The 4-speed automatic transmission addresses the needs of today's cosmopolitan customers for convenience in the stop-start city traffic conditions. The new SX4 with a range of contemporary features is sure to win many a hearts."

The biggest change however is the all new VVT or variable valve timing engine that allows the intake valve to be changed during engine operation in order to offer the best conditions for driving without any shortage or wastage in power. MSIL claims that the VVT engine is more efficient and emits lesser carbon emissions than its predecessor, while offering a slight increase in power but more importantly a definite change in the driving dynamics. In fact ARAI has certified the mileage of the new SX4 at 15.6 km per liter. The new engine continues to be a 1.6 litre unit, however it generates a maximum power of 104.68ps @5600 rpm and offers a high torque of 145Nm @4100 rpm and is BS IV compliant.

MSIL has also introduced an automatic variant on the new SX4. The 4 speed auto box is bound to be a delight for city commuters where increasing traffic woes are resulting in more people switching over to automatics to make the drive easier. Though it is a 4 speed, MSIL has incorporated an overdrive button on the shifter in order to give the car an extra boost in power should the need arise.

There is no doubting the fact that the SX4 required this mid life spruce up for the increased competition had taken its toll on the sales charts. The new SX4 should be able to recreate the success that the car initially witnessed when it was launched in the middle of 2007.
