Georgia's Todd Gurley was named the Walter Camp national offensive player of the week following his performance in the Bulldogs' 45-21 win over No. 16 Clemson on Saturday.
Gurley rushed for a career-high 198 yards on 15 carries (a 13.2-yard average) and three touchdowns and also added a score on a 100-yard kickoff return. He was officially credited with 293 all-purpose yards (one one pass reception was for minus-5 yards), breaking the single-game school record of 290 set by Rodney Hampton in 1987.
His kickoff return tied the NCAA record for longest return and is his second career 100-yard return for a score. He also had one in his first game as a Bulldog against Buffalo in 2012.
Gurley also got high praise from a Georgia legend, Herschel Walker: "Todd is the best running back in college football," Walker told Sports Illustrated this week. "Right now, you can't argue that point. ... "Every time he touches the ball, you're looking for something to happen."
This marks Gurley's first Walter Camp honor. Former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray was a two-time recipient last year, and former Bulldog All-American linebacker Jarvis Jones won the defensive honor three times while at Georgia.
UCLA linebacker Eric Kendricks was named the Walter Camp national defensive player of the week after recording a team-high 16 tackles, forcing one fumble and returning an interception 37 yards for a touchdown in the Bruins' 28-20 win over Virginia.
