Rhein Haus, A German Bier Hall, Is Coming to LoDo

Next spring, Rhein Haus will open its doors at the corner of 14th and Market, in the spot that housed the flagship location of Old Chicago until March. The two-story, 6,000-square-foot building will be transformed into a Bavarian bier hall and bocce ball emporium by a restaurant group based in Seattle, owned by Deming Maclise and James Weimann.

Rhein Haus will be the duo's first venture outside of Seatlle where they own and operate four restaurants — Bastille (a French brasserie), Poquitos (a Mexican restaurant), Macleod's (a single malt whisky bar) and the first iteration of Rhein Haus (originally named Von Trapp's).

Why Denver? "One of our partners is from there and one of our operating partners had lived in Denver and they love it," Deming Maclise explains. "James and I have been to Denver many times and always loved it. It feels like Seattle but more laid back," he continues.

The plan is to bring an attractive combination of beer, bocce ball courts, and German brats to LoDo. An extensive beer list will split evenly between German and Austrian brews and local ones. Bocce ball courts will be focal points on the first and second level, as well as on the planned/upcoming rooftop patio. And the sausages will all be made in-house by chef Pete Fjosne, who started with Maclise and Weimann in 2009 when Bastille, their first venture, opened.
