WMECo Brings No-Cost Energy Efficiency Upgrades to Pittsfield’s Small Businesses

First 50 small businesses to sign-up will receive no-cost energy efficiency upgrades

Springfield, Mass. (August 26, 2014) – Small downtown businesses in Pittsfield will soon be benefiting from a popular WMECo energy efficiency program. The company’s Main Street Energy Efficiency Program has already helped more than 150 small businesses in Springfield, Easthampton, West Springfield and Greenfield at no cost to the business owners. Now the program is coming to Pittsfield.

“We’re proud of what our Main Street program is accomplishing in cities and towns across Western Massachusetts,” said TilakSubrahmanian, Vice President of Energy Efficiency at Northeast Utilities, WMECo’s parent company. “We are confident Pittsfield’s small business owners will enjoy significant savingsboosting their bottom line while helping the environment by being more energy efficient.”

Mayor Bianchi stated, “I am so appreciative of Western Mass Electric’s initiative to assist small businesses. Energy bills can be a major cost center for many small businesses, anything we can do as a community to help facilitate the conversation of electricity use is worthy work. We are hopeful that many of our small businesses in the areas identified by WMECo will benefit from this service. Any questions about the service can be directed to WMECo or can be directed to my office [the Mayor’s Office 499-9321].”

The program is available to small store front businesses in the Elm and Tyler Street Business Group and Dalton Street. These include restaurants, night spots, retail shops, pizza parlors, neighborhood groceries and convenience stores. Specifically designed to offer assistance to mom-and-pop shops in traditional downtown settings, WMECo’s Main Street Energy Efficiency Program begins with a no-cost energy assessment. Based on the results of this walk-through assessment, upgrades – offered at no-cost to the participating businesses – may include new lighting, occupancy sensors, programmable thermostats and water saving devices.

WMECo's Main Street Energy Efficiency Program is a complete turnkey service. The company's pre-approved contractors will make all the necessary arrangements for the installation of efficiency upgrades at participating businesses. Licensed electricians will perform the installations using quality materials, backed by a full guarantee.
