Maine drinks the most, but Washington, D.C., is the most hungover. These are among the gems revealed by a new poll of America's drinking habits. Want some more? The most popular cocktail among women is a margarita, while for men it's a rum and Coke — and all that sugar and tequila must count for something, because the ladies are 40 percent more likely to drunk-dial an ex. Fifty percent of us have been hungover at work, or so we report, while only 20 percent have called in sick because of a hangover. Oh, and cut your surly waiter some slack, he's in the profession most likely to be at work with a hangover, right ahead of real estate agents, salesmen, and cops. Which explains why we keep getting all those damn parking tickets.

Commissioned by purported hangover cure Blowfish, the scientifically conducted poll went on to list the most hungover — and drunkest — states, from least to greatest. See how yours checks out below, ranked from most to least hungover, with drunkenness score on the right in parentheses.

One last note: There seem to be some correlations between political parties and booze. The poll looked at beer preferences along party lines. Republicans chose Bud Light, Democrats Blue Moon, and libertarians a rather apropos Sam Adams. The most popular in our nation? Same three, different order. Blue Moon leads, with Sam Adams a close second, and Bud Light trailing behind. Not sure what this actually means, except that it could be a very interesting election year.
