A Frenchman has lodged a criminal complaint against American Airlines after cabin crew asked him to get off a flight to the United States because of his body odour.

The 27-year-old man, identified only by his first name, Mehdi, left the airliner before it took off from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport on Sunday for Dallas following a call to police from the crew. Of Algerian origin, he has reported the airline to police on the grounds of alleged racial discrimination.

The passenger, who was making his first trip to the United States, showed journalists a video of a cabin attendant or airline staff member telling him in French: “The crew and the passengers have complained about your smell.”
