The Order of Australia was established as "an Australian society of honour for the purpose of according recognition to Australian citizens and other persons for achievement or for meritorious service."

George Pell's cover-ups of child abuse within the Catholic Church and his disdain for the victims of the abuse and his lack of empathy are far from being meritorious.

Instead of being someone who should be honoured for his services to the Catholic Church, he should be stripped of any award given to honour him for bringing the Church into disrepute.

I know that there is a lot of call for him to be brought to justice, kicked out of the Church and other things that we might not be able to change or do, but as Australians who are asked to look upon those we honour with these awards as people of worth and value to our society, we need to tell organisation like the Order of Australia Association that George Pell is not someone to be revered.
