The other day, I was asked in an interview, "In your CV, you mention that you nurture a culture of having fun. Tell us more about that." I'm not talking about forced fun, that's annoying. What I am a big fan of is having a sense of humour at work and having fun. I came from a mindset 16 years ago that, as a project manager, I had to be serious, "get people" to get sh!t done, and take it seriously. A few years in, I realised that just didn't work. Four or five years later, I turned over a new leaf. I experimented with "Having fun and getting stuff done," and that's my motto today. 👇 Reduces stress and ☝ increases productivity. That's right. The teams that I work with today enjoy having a laugh and getting serious, delivering value. They can talk about tough things and learn through having fun. Take on the challenge as I did 15~ years ago. The Economist teams may remember this 👇 ...

How do you describe agility when speaking to teams and organisations that want deliver value faster to customers?? Improve employee satisfaction and connect purpose with work? ME? I talk about cats... https://lnkd.in/eNvQsr3B
When I talk about agility I often tell a story about a cat, a cat jumping from a tall building this helps with the understanding of adapting to change to thrive. I am happy to share that I have now made a short animation with my colleague Sal at Upwork. Why is it important to have agility in your organisation? Well, let's take a peek at the pandemic back in 2020. Organisations that moved from manufacturing cars to producing ventilators like Ford Motor Company or breweries that moved from beer and spirits to providing hospitals with hand sanitiser like Ramsbury Brewing & Distilling Co. Ltd. These companies pivoted from their known to an unknown, and from here they thrived. Organisations that stuck to their original "plan" took a hit, and in some unfortunate cases did not survive, like our cat that did not flex, turn and adapt. #change #agility #projects #creativityatwork #agilecat Maykit Projects

I am often inspired by nature and nature's resilience to breaking through the toughest environments. When travelling to Iceland* almost 10 years ago on a Golden Circle Day Tour, we learnt that Iceland is covered in moss, hundreds, if not thousands, of different varieties. A sea of colours, it is beautiful! #fact: Moss is the first thing to grow on volcanic or lava rock. It's porous and helps to keep the humidity levels high. We are part of nature, and we can break through the toughest of situations too! Food for thought today is: Just like this moss, how can you thrive in depleted areas of your organisation to help you and your colleagues get their spark back for the products you build or services you provide? *What a place! Definitely on my return list!
