Sweet Tweets for 8/22/14 – Children of God

I love this week’s lead “sweet tweet” from Pope Francis, which reminds us that we are each “children of God”. What a precious notion – we parents know how much we love and would give our lives for our children. Many of us are sons and daughters of living parents who would do the very same for us. And yet as deep as this love is, it’s only a tiny foreshadowing of the immense love that God has for each and every one of us.

If we haven’t experienced a child’s sense of love and protection, we may need to heal from inner wounds to truly embrace that love that God has for us. If we’re blessed to know such love in our human relationships, we are called to spread it to the world around us. In today’s gospel from Matthew 22, we are reminded as Jesus taught his disciples:

“You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You must love your neighbor as yourself.”
