Baby ejected from car when grandmother swerves to avoid debris on Florida interstate
A 10-month-old child died after being ejected from a vehicle in Tampa, Florida.
WFLA reports Lorraine Sailor, 50, was driving her three grandchildren in a 2008 Hyundai Elantra along I-75 Sunday afternoon when she swerved to avoid hitting debris on the road. Sailor lost control of the car and the vehicle struck a guardrail in the center median.
As the vehicle spun, two of the grandchildren -- a 10-month-old and 8-year-old -- were ejected. A 3-year-old remained in the car.
The 10-month-old was pronounced dead at an area hospital. Sailor accompanied the other two children to Tampa General Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries.
The Tampa Bay Times reports none of the children were wearing seat belts and charges are pending in the crash.
A neighbor who wished to remain anonymous told Fox 13 she often saw the woman playing with her grandchildren.
"She looked like a great grandma, she looked like a great person. I'm going to pray a lot for them."
