Quality Control Check for eCourses - Best Practices

Aug 04, 2014

Curious...

What are some of the best practices that you have implemented or tried to Quality Check your elearning course to ensure everything (and the kitchen sink) is correct?

Thanks,

Dana

Hi Dana!

This is a great topic, and I'm pretty surprised no one else has jumped in yet with their own experiences.

Every company I've worked as has had a different approach to quality control and reviewing of the e-learning courses they were putting out. At one job I was designing and developing e-learning modules that were being sold online and they had a pretty lengthy and detailed review and QA process, so I thought I'd share that example...

- First of all there was several review checkpoints throughout the storyboarding and design process. I first created a rough outline of what the course content would be, and got that approved. Then, I'd select my Presentation, Application and Feedback methods for each piece of content, and get that approved.

- During the storyboarding I'd have every module reviewed by stakeholders. As things progressed and we got into a good groove this might be every 2-3 modules instead of every module.

- When the first draft was developed, my SME, who happened to be a great writer, reviewed the entire course for content accuracy, nav problems, spelling and for basic design and layout fixes. I made all those edits, and then she reviewed again a second time. Then, we had another co worker review for spelling and writing, and she managed to find quite a few additional mistakes we had both missed in our initial reviews... It's amazing how many details can be missed.

- After all this, the final course was published and then tested by 3-4 people at the company with various tech and demographic backgrounds. They were recorded taking the course and given a questionnaire for their feedback, based on this, additional edits were made. Then, once the course was published and posted online we did a final testing on 3-4 different work stations.

All of these different quality control/review checkpoints were totally worthwhile and I ended up with some of my best content ever. So in addition to sharing my own experience, I thought I'd share a few links to past forum discussions related to this topic that might be helpful for you!

Hope this helps Dana... :) And hope to maybe get input from other community members... Have a good day!
