Sick of driving around in circles trying to find a parking space? A new app called JustPark could be just the ticket, allowing drivers to find, book, pay for and navigate to a free spot directly from their car dashboards.

JustPark works by connecting home and business owners who would like to earn money from renting their space with drivers in need of a convenient, safe and cost-effective place to park.

Drivers can browse a selection of 100,000 parking spaces across the UK, from car parks and hotels to domestic driveways and pubs. Once they have chosen and paid for a space, they are directed to their destination by the car’s navigation system.

Mini is the first car brand to integrate the JustPark app, but BMW plans to roll it out across its entire range later this year. JustPark is also available through the iPhone app and via justpark.com.

“In 2014, no driver should have to experience the stress and uncertainty of circling the streets searching for that elusive parking space," said JustPark founder Anthony Eskinazi.

"JustPark gives drivers the convenience of finding and reserving an affordable parking space in moments. Just as we use apps to order taxis and takeaways, parking is finally being brought out of the dark ages.”

The release of the JustPark in-car app follows the recent launch of Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Android-based Open Automotive Alliance.

The GSMA (the trade body for mobile operators) estimates that there will be over 60 million connected cars on the road globally in the next five years.

Connected parking systems have long been part of the vision for smart cities and the 'internet of things'. The average driver wastes 106 days of their life searching for a parking space, and circling for parking is responsible for 30 per cent of traffic on urban roads.

JustPark (previously known as ParkatmyHouse) has already attracted 500,000 drivers, and is hoping to expand with investment from BMW i Ventures and Index Ventures.

"Parking has suffered from a lack of innovation. We believe JustPark can change that," said Robin Klein, partner at Index Ventures, who will be joining JustPark’s board.
