30 Top Groups To Join On Linkedin For Leadership and HR

I am a bit of a serial social media user, and one of my favourite platforms is Linkedin. One of the reasons for this is because my passion is in People Development, and I write frequently about Leadership and HR; and there are many of us on Linkedin! I have met most (not all), of some of my most treasured connections on Linkedin.

I am proactive when it comes to reviewing my group membership. I have over the past two years or so observed, engaged, posted and exchanged rule clarifications with many group managers.

I have become a Group Manager myself, and host a group with some 7.7k brilliant members. So not only have I experienced a host of styles, rules and cultures within a range of groups, I also appreciate the difficulties in running a Group,

A whole community has arisen from my own Group Management, culminating in the e.MILE People Development Magazine, which this month is achieving around 5k views a week, which is amazing. I have around 200 brilliant authors who have and are helping to make the magazine a brilliant success. So I understand completely the power of social networking and particularly the power of Linkedin Groups.

I have over the past 6 months or so, reviewed and assessed my own group membership based on what I've learned. Over that time, I have developed a list of 30 groups which I must recommend to anyone who is interested in People Development, Leadership or HR. One of that 30 is a regionally based group in my own location. One is my own group, which I am a huge fan of, because of my fabulous members.

While my choices are obviously based on my own personal preference, in assessing my group membership I have developed some criteria which I believe is a recipe for success for any Group, and because of this I continue to engage and remain a member of the groups that follow and I also highly recommend you join them.

My winning criteria which makes the groups that follow, a must to join is pretty simple really:

1. They are engaging. - Members of the group engage and are interested in discussing topics intelligently and with care.

2. They have rules, but not too many. - They have an adult/adult approach to members and postings

3. The managers will contact you respectfully and sensibly if they have a problem with a post or anything to do with your membership

4. Managers are visible and encourage the group to engage

5 The topics they host are simply interesting, enjoyable and diverse

6. I have engaged with many if not all of the managers and they are passionate and committed to their group and their topic.

7. While they may be geographically based, membership is encouraged from all over the globe.

So go on, if you genuinely want to find a group which deals with people, leadership or HR development, then you can look no further than the following. Go on and join up!

All these links are broken, probably due to a change on the LinkedIn side since the article was written. You can fix this by removing "?gid=" and "&" and any group titles from the links. Example 1 Broken: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/?gid=1426&= Fixed: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/1426 Example 2 Broken: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/Altrupreneurs-Creating-Enthusiastic-Engagement-4804005/ Fixed: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/4804005/ Hope that helps!

Thank you Christina! I'm joining some of these groups, and it looks like many are still active even in 2016. Great work!
