Hands-on Workshop Announcement

Biomedical Big Data Resources and Analysis Tools

A two-day hands-on workshop offered at Georgetown University Medical Center

November 3 and 4, 2017

Workshop Description

This two-day, in-person hands-on workshop for faculty at any level in public and private academic institutions, will cover major concepts, methods and tools of translational bioinformatics and hands-on computer based exercises utilizing web-based bioinformatics resources - such as Georgetown Database of Cancer (G-DOC)- a unique translational research platform for connecting molecular and clinical data, the Universal Protein Resource, UniProt, and TCGA. Additional hands-on experience will be provided on systems biology level analysis of experimental multi-omics biomarkers discovery using pathway analysis tools.

Workshop Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to

  • Understand current data generation technologies used in translational research
  • Identify which tools and/or resources to use to perform specific bioinformatics analysis related to translational research
  • Perform basic systems level analysis of large-scale multi-omics data

Targeted Audience/Registration

The course is open to faculty at any level in public and private academic institutions.

Thanks to an R25 NIH grant, there are no registration fees. Because space will be limited to 20 participants, applications to join the course will be accepted till Wednesday September 6, 2017, 5pm EST. Applicants will be notified about acceptance to the workshop no later than Monday September 11, 2017.

To apply, please fill out the online form here.

Travel Awards

Thanks to an R25 NIH grant, travel awards that fully cover all attendance costs (Travel cost, accommodations, and meals) are available to faculty members in US under-resourced institutions. Please indicate your interest to apply for travel awards when you fill your online application form. Notification about travel awards will be communicated to applicants no later than Monday September 11, 2017.
