NVTA Executive Director Participates in Senator Warner's Upcoming Roundtable Event
U.S. Senator Mark Warner, who led negotiations during the recent COVID-19 stimulus package that provided $14B in emergency relief for public transit agencies to continue operations during the pandemic, is hosting a socially distanced roundtable discussion on COVID-19 impacts on regional transportation, today, February 19th at 1:30 p.m. in Arlington, VA.
As one of the Commonwealth's transportation leaders invited to participate, Northern Virginia Transportation Authority Executive Director, Monica Backmon, will weigh in on:
- Importance of regional collaboration and partnerships to make a true impact on the level of infrastructure investments required to sustain the transportation network;
- Economic impact of multimodal transportation investments – Investing in transportation means investing in jobs and the economy; and
- COVID-19 impacts on transportation and recovery/ resiliency during a challenging time – Pandemic resulted in teleworking playing a dominate role; In the recovery, we’re seeing increased usage of commuting modes like roads and bus transit.
