The University of Delaware's Newark campus and other UD locations in New Castle County were closed from 5-10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 11 because of weather. Essential personnel were asked to report to work.

Classes scheduled before 10 a.m. will not meet, and offices will be closed until then.

UD Facilities staff are working during the morning to clear campus parking lots and treat sidewalks.

Members of the campus community are reminded to use caution when traveling today.

The University of Delaware Associate in Arts Program (AAP) in Wilmington and the AAP program on the Delaware Technical Community College campus in Dover will both open at 10 a.m., Feb. 11. AAP students on the DTCC Georgetown campus should follow DTCC for its schedule.

• UD buses will begin operating at 9 a.m., Feb. 11.

• Residential dining locations -- Pencarder, Russell and Rodney -- will open on schedule today at 7 a.m. Retail operations will open on a two-hour delay. 

• The Trabant University Center and the Perkins Student Center will open today at 7 a.m., with limited services.

• The Barnes and Noble University of Delaware Bookstore will open on its normal schedule at 9 a.m., and the cafe will open at that time as well.

• The Morris Library will open at 10 a.m. today.

Personal safety

Safety is UD's highest priority. Faculty, staff and students should not put themselves at risk, and employees who expect difficulty traveling should contact their supervisors.

The University's policy is reprinted below:

Faculty and students are not expected to take unnecessary risks to meet their teaching and learning obligations due to inclement weather. When classes have not been canceled, it is a matter of personal judgment whether traveling to campus is hazardous. Faculty should notify their departmental offices when weather precludes them from meeting their teaching obligations; similarly, students should notify their professors when inclement weather precludes them from class attendance. In such cases, students should be allowed to make up missed class time and, whenever possible, canceled classes should be rescheduled.
