Virtual Reality Helps Disabled Man Ski for the First Time in 32 Years

Sometimes, in pursuit of first tracks, bluebird skies and blower pow, skiers and snowboarders can get a bit overzealous in their search for perfect conditions. Maybe, we get to the mountain late and find ourselves cursing under our breath at how tracked out a face is. We feel our blood boiling when we see a lift line that looks like it's straight out of the DMV. Let this video from the University of Nevada Reno (UNR) bring you back to the heart of what our wintery passions are all about.

Through the use of virtual reality, a team at UNR was able to allow 47-year-old master's student Evan W. Gadda–who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair–to ski for the first time in 32 years. His response says all you need to know about the simple pleasure of making tuns on frozen water.

“It was one of the most beautiful things I’ve experienced in my life,” Gadda, who hasn't experienced skiing since he was 15, told McClatchy. “I’ve always want to ski again."
