Prince Harry will miss the Boxing Day royal hunt, and William blames Meghan

Prince Harry greets the crowds outside Windsor Castle on the evening before his wedding to Meghan Markle

I told you that Prince William’s fingerprints would be on at least one royal story before the end of the year, and here it is. Throughout the smear campaign of Duchess Meghan, a picture has begun to form. The picture: two brothers who were once quite close, just as long as the younger brother “knew his place” and never rocked any royal boats. But when the younger brother developed his own separate interests and fell in love with a woman eminently more suitable for public life than the older brother’s wife, suddenly everything fell apart. The older brother is used to controlling his younger brother, and keeping him “in line.” When the older brother finds that his younger brother no longer listens to him, the older brother blames the new wife. It’s actually incredibly common. The royals really are just like us. Anyway, the latest thing Meghan is being blamed for? Mean Diva Meghan doesn’t want Harry to go on the Boxing Day shoot at Sandringham. Meghan is driving the brothers apart, because Harry obviously has no agency here.

Prince Harry will miss out on the traditional Boxing Day pheasant shoot with his brother Prince William at Sandringham to avoid upsetting his animal-loving wife Meghan. Their father Prince Charles will be at the shoot and Prince William’s son George may go along to catch the spectacle. Harry, 34, has taken part in the family event for more than 20 years, but Meghan, 37, strongly opposes blood sports and refuses to wear fur.

Harry and Prince William have enjoyed hunting together over the years and it has provided them with the opportunity to strengthen their brotherly bond. Now Royal watchers fear that Harry’s absence will only serve to deepen the reported tensions between the siblings and their wives.

One Royal source told the Sunday Mirror: ‘William sees this as another concerning example of his brother being pulled away from his family by his new wife. Harry’s always loved hunting and it has provided them with a great chance to bond as brothers. But now it looks like Harry’s shooting days are over. It’s the latest point of contention between the Princes.’

Meghan’s aversion to hunting is believed to have first caused issues last year, when Harry reportedly took part in a wild boar hunt in Germany. Realising his then-girlfriend ‘wasn’t happy,’ he declined to join the Boxing Day hunt last year – before missing the grouse hunt at Balmoral three months ago. Insiders say that Harry has changed hugely since meeting his American wife.

When the one-time ‘Party Prince’ took Meghan to Jamaica to celebrate the wedding of his best friend Tom Inskip, the couple were the first to leave the party and go to bed. Since then, he has also become more distant from the group of friends he grew up with.

[From The Daily Mail]

For what it’s worth, there were similar stories written about the Cambridges, as in “Kate changed William, William no longer hangs out with the same group of friends like he used to, William is so different now and it’s Kate’s fault.” It’s like these “sources” don’t understand that people grow up, get married, start families and obviously their priorities shift and change. I don’t understand all the hand-wringing about the Boxing Day shoot, or why Meghan is getting the blame for it. If Harry wanted to go, he would go. He clearly prefers spending time with his pregnant wife rather than his brother. Oh well.

William comes out of this story like a poor dumb man.

    • BlueSky says:

If you suspected your brother was behind the smear campaign against you and your wife, would you go? And who knows what other sh@t would leak out after that trip.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

I agree. All these “leaks” and “insider” stories are supposed to make Harry and Meghan look bad, but to me they have the opposite effect. I think the people behind the smear campaign need to tread very carefully, because this is starting to backfire.

      • likeafox says:

It’s too much at this point. It’s less a smear campaign and more of a hack job. Because even if you were inclined to believe some of it, the vast sheer enormity of the smear campaign just makes it look like a group of people with an ax to grind, crying to the press.

If this is the work of royal courtiers, then I’m officially unimpressed. There’s something to be said for strategy, for a light touch, for playing the long game. I guess they don’t make courtiers like they used to?

    • Dee says:

I am at a loss reading these comments about Meghan. Everyone knows the queen dislikes dark nail varnish yet she chose to wear it so publicly. Maybe because most of the commenters are American that u don’t understand that she is a minor royal and she must tow the line. She chose to marry Harry and with that comes the expectation that your purpose is to have babies and extend the BRF. She literally married into a family where protocal and tradition is law! She knows what she is doing.
Also it is not normal for a boss to text an employee at 5 am in the f’ing morning. How is that ever acceptable. That’s treating your staff like slaves.

      • Tina says:

The Queen does not expect other people to follow her personal preferences in matters such as nail polish.

      • A says:

“Minor royal” Listen, if this is the case, then someone needs to let the press know, because they certainly don’t treat her as such, do they? If she is really a minor royal, then none of this stuff truly matters. And yet the press runs several articles a day about Meghan. Why is that?

      • Avery says:

If you are staff then that means you are getting PAID and therefore NOT a SLAVE!

      • Val says:

(Speaking as an American.) I don’t understand the grief and complaints about texting staff at 5:00 am. (Or it could have been 11:00 pm or any time on a national holiday, etc.) There’s no reason to assume that Meghan expected an immediate answer or response. I don’t know the content of the 5:00 am text and lacking some explanation I think it’s very possible [in fact likely] that Meghan awoke early, thought of some task that needed doing, and sent a reminder or request by text with the expectation it would be handled during the normal workday.

      • Aria says:

@Dee I agree with you. It’s a bit absurd for anyone to make a fuss about protocol especially when marrying into the Royal Family. Assuming this article is true, if she felt so strongly about adhering to certain ways or traditions, it should’ve been addressed before marriage. Obviously there’s some trade-offs if you’re going to live one of the most lavish lives. Also for those saying, “Harry wants to spend time with Megan” looks a bit silly. It’s not as if they have a long distance relationship and don’t spend time with each other. He looks like he’s trying to placate her, but I wish he’d be forthcoming about respecting her wishes.

      • Alice says:

        @VAL

Please stop with the attempts to justify employers invading employees’ personal time with nationality. I work with Americans all the time and I haven’t noticed any difference in their expectations compared to Canadian ones, i. e. employees are paid to be working during their *working* hours. Any time outside of these working hours is not to be disturbed. Period.

On a side note, texting is completely unacceptable as it is immediately received, seen, etc. An email may remain unseen until working time but texting is a level of disturbance which simply doesn’t belong in a respectful working environment outside of working hours. No American, no Canadian, no Englush, haven’t met anyone willing to be interrupted during their downtime by text messages from or about work. Employees are NOT paid for these hours.

  2. Peg says:

He missed it last year, William don’t have to worry, two Sons to carry on the tradition with.

  3. Milla says:

It just makes Harry look like an idiot. Like he needed brother to tell him go hunt, now his wife tells him don’t. And he is such a good boy so he just takes orders.

    • Betsy says:

Probably what Willie and his press office were going for.

    • Girlplease says:

Harry changing his mind makes him an idiot. Sure Jan

      • Milla says:

Welll Harry’s track record of great decisions speaks for itself. So i do believe this, since we already heard it more than once. Let’s not pretend they are some super smart bunch. Charles is living on his own planet and Diana wasn’t clever, she just had to learn how to use media. It’s not like any of them are really intelligent people. Harry didn’t even bother to get proper education, with all that money and connections.
I’m still trying to understand one thing. Harry is more popular than William. But wk are more popular than other couples. So what’s the point of all this?

      • Tina says:

Well, Charles was concerned about the fate of this planet for a lot longer than most of us have been.

    • Peg says:

Could it be that he did not have a wife before, and now he does he want to spend the time with her instead of hunting.
      Idiot a step up from a dimwit🏹.

    • Anastasia says:

That just means you’re buying what this article (and Will?) is selling.

    • MrsBump says:

Agree, All this does make Harry sound a little wishy washy.

If he’s only missing the hunt to please his wife, while it certainly shows how much he loves her, it also shows that he isn’t a person with a mind of his own or with convictions of his own or he would have refused to join the hunt years ago.

He certainly married up, that’s for sure.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

It’s not “wishy washy” to change your mind. It’s not “flip flopping” to change your mind. We are not obligated to stick with one belief or one opinion forever, nor are we obligated to repeat the same activity year after year. It’s a sign of growth and mental flexibility that we can change our minds and try new things.

      • Swack says:

Just because he chooses not to do the shoot does not mean he doesn’t have a mind of his own. This whole blame the wife is a bunch of bull! My ex blamed me for everything when it came to getting divorced, I never did enough, I made him not have a beer when he wanted (not to mention he ended up TWICE in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer and then the second time told the doctor it was my fault because I wasn’t doing thing right even though I stopped frying foods, cut down on the spices, etc.), etc. People need to get over the fact that humans change over the years and there is nothing wrong with that.

      • MrsBump says:

Of course people are entitled to change their minds, but animals rights isn’t something that just dropped in 2018. What did meghan tell him that he should’nt already know given his incredibly expensive Eton education.
This doesn’t sound like a man whose eyes were opened by new facts, it sounds like a man who doesn’t have strong beliefs and will just go along.

@swack, i’m deeply sorry for your personal experience but no, i’m not blaming Meghan, she’s the smart one of the two. She’s sticking to what she believes in and good for her.
I’m just surprised at how little conviction Harry has.

      • Tina says:

@MrsBump, animal rights activists are rather thin on the ground at Eton. I suspect Meghan has presented Harry with some rather good arguments on many topics that he had not previously considered.

      • arsesds73 says:

Perhaps he just wants to spend time with his pregnant wife. I don’t think it’s as complicated as people are making it seem. Plus its boxing day, maybe they will go incognito and go hunting for some awesome sales deals on electronics instead lol.

    • Himmiefan says:

Even if this story is true, and who knows, Harry should go just to make the story look false.

  4. TheOtherOne says:

Maybe he wants to spend the day with his pregnant wife.

  5. Nancycon says:

I happen to think Kate is well suited to being a royal spouse. The royals are not politicians or celebrities, the key has always to be scandal free & not rock the boat. The royals certainly do not want a repeat of the Diana & Fergie era which brought about the lowest point for the royals in modern times. Despite what some might choose to believe Kate has always had good approval ratings which puts her in a good position as a future Queen consort.

    • Girlplease says:

Kate is lacking in personality and work habit.

Being Queen one day means she will need to give speeches and work.

      • janerys says:

She’s still hugely popular. Most people probably don’t scrutinise gossip sites and don’t think about the royal much but like when they see a happy family portrait and like the people in the portrait.

      • Chrisjamm says:

How many great speeches has the Queen given? The Queen isn’t known for her vibrant & warm personality but she has remained popular & steadfast. As consort Kate does not need to give great speeches or be the life of the party. Sure she can increase her workload & profile and I have no doubt that she will especially once she becomes Princess of Wales.

      • Lady D says:

So we have a new goalpost for Kate. Now it’s she will be a real working royal just as soon as she is made the Princess of Wales? Let me guess, after she becomes PoW, we will have to wait until she is QC for her to increase her workload, right? LMAO She’s had 17 years to make an impression, not one of those impressions has been of a hard worker or even someone who cares about anybody or anything, besides her immediate family.

      • notasugarhere says:

The Queen has given thousands of speeches. Philip did over 22,000 engagements, wrote 12 books, and gave 5400+ speeches in his time as consort.

Lady D, Kate has shown us who she is for those 17 years. Lazy, entitled, workshy. She isn’t going to wake up one day with a brand new work ethic, nor will William.

      • Tina says:

Read any of the Queen’s messages of condolence. They are simple, heartfelt, and beautifully written. Most famously, “Grief is the price we pay for love” following the 9/11 attacks. (I’m not suggesting that she writes these speeches, but she has final say on them).

She’s not supposed to be a dramatic speaker, constitutionally speaking, especially in the speech from the Throne when it would be a horrid mistake to express approval or disapproval of any government policies. But her authentic voice does come through from time to time. My personal favourite is following Diana’s death, when she was facing unprecedented criticism, and said that she was speaking “as your Queen and as a grandmother.” Her first, and I believe only, thought was for now motherless William and Harry.

      • notasugarhere says:

LOL. Monarchs are not required to be bland speakers, nor are heirs to the throne or consorts. Go look at Margrethe II of Denmark, CP Victoria, and consorts Maxima and Letizia.

    • notasugarhere says:

Original post disappeared. Kate is the anomaly, the throwback. Look at the spouses most modern royals have chosen. Speech therapist, award winning journalist, successful gym owner, international banker.

A silent, lazy, never-worked party girl is not a modern choice, nor is it what the royals need today.

      • minx says:

Well, Kate may not be a modern choice but she’s what they have. That ship sailed a long time ago.

      • Dali says:

Successful gym owner? Who? Daniel? Haha yeah that’s what the swedish royal family was selling at the time to make him more appropriate for victoria. He was a personal trainer but suddenly became a gym owner and then he went to university/school to get a higher education to be good enough for the royal family. And her brother married sophia, an underwear model who tweeted, „im dating the prince“ when she met carl phillip. Mette marit, the party queen who flashed her b&&bs on a party pic and took ecstasy? Puhlease. What exactly did the queen before she became the queen ? As if any of these royals are admirable or role models. Attending events, shaking hands, waving to the crowds who are funging your ridiculous luxurious life, is like work or something to look up? All these people who worked hard in their lifes and married into a royal family gave up that hard work life and are living now in castles surrounded by courtiers.

      • Mrs.Krabapple says:

To Dali – Princess Sofia working during her pregnancies. Crown Princess Victoria worked even with her leg in a cast. Prince Daniel may have been a lowly fitness trainer, but he obviously loves his wife (and did you see his cell phone cover? it has a picture of Victoria and their two kids on it — so modern and sweet).

By comparison, Kate was William’s doormat for years while William screwed around and wondered what to do with his life. And they both are completely lazy and selfish. William lied about having reserve duty to skip out on some para-Olympians, only to be found out that he went on vacation. Similarly, Kate skipped out on engagements because she was “sick” — only for the public to find out she had a pre-scheduled vacation during that time.

So maybe the royals of other countries don’t meet YOUR standards, but they are still miles above William and Kate.

      • notasugarhere says:

Yes, owning multiple gyms that are in the black makes you a successful self-made businessman. Maxima, Letizia, Mathilde, Daniel, those are modern royals. They know what it is to earn a living on your own before marrying a royal.

Kate is the anomaly. Sofia and her husband should be sent packing. They are not needed or wanted as working royals.

      • Dali says:

        To. Mrs. Krabbale
I was not talking about daniels love for victoria. He clearly adores her. I watched their wedding and their speeches and to me, it was the best royal wedding. To me, his job was totally fine, but im not a Royal.
I didn’t even mention w&k. But theiy are the big enemies i guess. I do not care too much about them or royals in particular, but as a cb reader, you can’t avoid this topic. It generates a lot of clicks and comments so of course the media writes a lot about them. And negative stories sell better then positive ones. Keep that in mind.

      • notasugarhere says:

Dali, you can avoid the topic by not clicking on any post Kaiser writes about royals. Simple.

      • A says:

Sophia and MM have done really well since they got married though. I think any of us would have been willing to give Kate the benefit of the doubt on her past behaviour if she’d done well after her marriage, but she hasn’t. I don’t particularly find a great deal of royal spouses that accomplished, but I do think that after they get married, they should commit to their role and strive to do as much as possible. Kate is hardly doing that so far.

      • norah says:

compare all the modern european royals esp the women – these are all qualified and have brains and cant afford to be shrinking violets. maxima / mary/ victoria/ letizia / all have kids and yet they work more than kate does

    • molly says:

Kate is exactly what the BRF needs. Meghan apparently loves to work, and look how much they’re freaking out about it.

      • notasugarhere says:

The BRF does not need lazy royals. Where on earth do these ideas come from?

Awaiting the engagement totals from Tim O’Donovan that should be out in two weeks.

      • molly says:

        @notasugarhere
The BRF “needs” a lot of things. Princess Anne works every single day cutting ribbons and walking about. But will her comings and goings sell papers? Do people care what she wears and cover her every move? No, of course not.
I’d argue that being a beautiful face that wears pretty clothes, stays out of trouble, and gets the world to invest in the weddings and children of BRF is every bit of what they “need” to survive in the 21st centry. Not another person to unveil a million plaques.

      • Dali says:

        @notsugarhere
Lazy royals? Where does this idea come from?
You are not familiar with the history of royal households. Only now, in this era, royals pretend to be working, that was not always the case. Nobody was asking for their work. That’s why their royals. Their work was to take money from the commoners.

      • notasugarhere says:

Yes Anne does over 500 engagements a year. Sophie and Edward do a combined 500-600. The goal is not to be newsworthy, but to show up and do the job. That is the goal with the younger ones as well, that ultimately they’ll work so often it doesn’t make the news.

Dali, it appears you are unfamiliar with the work load of modern royals in the British Royal Family. Go look up Tim O’Donovan and his annual tally of who does what. Queen (Consort) Mary was the one who saw the writing on the Russian wall and kicked the royal family into gear. “We are a member of the British royal family. We are never tired and we all love hospitals”.

“I’d argue that being a beautiful face that wears pretty clothes, stays out of trouble, and gets the world to invest in the weddings and children of BRF is every bit of what they “need” to survive in the 21st centry.”

molly it appears you are living in the mid-1950s. What the royals need to survive is an emtpy-headed Barbie? WTF

      • Bluthfan says:

Nota – the numbers will be slanted to make the Cambridges look better. When the Cambridges went on tour every little mini event including deplaning was considered a separate event. I seriously doubt that will happen with the Sussexes tours.

      • notasugarhere says:

Of course they will be. But numbers remain. Kate did 105 engagements last year.

Meghan only has 7 months worth of engagements counted this year (not the 28 she did before the wedding). And she’s already done 110 or so this year.

  6. Char says:

How can you be against hunting in Africa AND STILL, hunt in your country? Hypocrisy, cruelty, entitlement.

    • Megan says:

Exactly. If Meghan helped him see his hypocrisy then more power to her.

      • Vegan says:

She wears leather all the times and eats meat …. this story makes no sense whatsoever. She got proposed to over roast chicken … all her shoes / bags / gloves are made from leather

      • Bettyrose says:

        Vegan,

I agree but there are degrees of animal activism, and opposing sport hunting is a damn good start.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Don’t forget criticizing Africa’s supposed overpopulation while your wife is expecting baby #3.

      • Ib says:

Meghan is vegetarian…she does not eat meat

      • Valiantly Varnished says:

@IB Meghan is NOT vegetarian. She featured recipes containing meat on her blog The Tig and her engagement story with Harry involved them roasting a chicken.

      • arsesds73 says:

Thing is she’s never said that she’s a vegetarian or an animal rights activist. She said she tries to follow a certain diet, but never claimed to be vegan/vegetarian, pro animal supporter, etc. The tabloids just made it up. That being said, going hunting seems something she would rather skip out on simply because she may not enjoy it and not due to some higher moral reason regarding animal rights. Harry not going is definitely his personal choice of not wanting to leave his wife alone or make it seem like she’s being excluded than “Meghan is forcing him to not go hunting”

      • Char says:

@Beach Dreams It’s ok to have as many kids as you want if they are white and supported by the goverment for life. William doesn’t even have to work to support his house! It must be really difficult to be him.

    • OriginalLala says:

hunting and having babies are only problems when commoners and non-white people do it, clearly. Such hypocrites…one of the many reasons the BRF has outlived its purpose

      • Zee says:

There is a huge difference between hunting in your local forest and poaching endangered animals in Africa. There is also a big difference having 3 wealthy kids in Europe and overpopulation in countries that aren’t capable of basic welfare for its people.

      • Nic919 says:

The parents of three children in the UK no longer get government support for the third child in the UK unless he or she is a product of rape. So outside of the royals who get all the money they want, the UK isn’t providing basic welfare for all of its citizens either. That’s what added to the hypocrisy of William’s speech.

      • Megan says:

An electric heater uses more energy in one day than a Nigerian uses in three months. If William is concerned about over population, he should focus on the populations that consume the most and create the most waste.

      • Linda says:

        @Megan
I would appreciate it if you speak of what you know. I am a Nigerian living in Nigeria and I do not understand your analogy. You do realize that we enjoy basic amenities like electric heaters in Nigeria. We do not live on trees like the news will have you believe.

      • Megan says:

@Linda – The number I quoted is from a ONE Campaign study that was used to educate Americans about the need for expanded access to energy in Nigeria and other African nations.

The study looked at average energy consumption per person per nation. Because such a large percentage of Nigeria’s population lives off the grid, the average is low when compared to some products commonly used in the US. The problem is not limited to Nigeria or Africa, but I happened to remember that figure because I work with an NGO that partners with community organizations in Nigeria to address the issue.

But the point of my comment was that William has a lot of nerve suggesting African nations need to focus on population control when people from his country consume massive amounts of resources and generate massive amounts of waste. Those most responsible for environmental damage need to be the most responsible for fixing it.

      • A says:

@Megan, thank you for pointing this out. The average footprint of a British citizen, or even a European citizen, is many many times that of the average footprint from anyone else in the world. And yet, people like William see themselves as an appropriate ambassador for population control. Amazing.

      • Char says:

@Zee An animal is an animal, no matter if in Africa or in a private property in the UK. Foxes are as valuable as rhinos or elephants and are hunted with the same cruelty. Even worst, foxes are raised in captivity in horrible conditions to be skinned alive for fur coats that rich people buy.

  7. Betsy says:

Does someone eat whatever birds they shoot? That’s generally my thing with hunting. I don’t get it, I don’t want to do it, I don’t like what’s shootable around here (venison? Yuck. I haven’t enjoyed it any of the times I’ve had it), but if you’re (or someone is) eating what you kill, go forth. It seems like such a weird Christmas tradition to me though. “Let’s celebrate jesus’s birthday and go bag some quail!”

    • Erinn says:

I have mixed feelings. I come from a family who loved to hunt and fish – my husbands are even more into that kind of thing. He goes ‘hunting’ every year which essentially entails him and his extended family camping out in a hunting camp and MAYBE taking a walk or two around the woods. He really isn’t a killer – hates the idea of doing it. But we both will eat deer meat if it’s offered. I could never kill them myself though. And I don’t eat duck or rabbit, or pheasant, so I might have a small piece of deer steak once every couple of years- otherwise it’s grocery store food. We’ve also got a pretty big surge in the deer population in our area, so I don’t have a problem with people bringing it down within reason to allow the other deer to survive a bit easier.

    • Veronica S. says:

I’m fine with it as long as they aren’t endangered species and the resource is consumed/utilized afterwards. It’s death for the sake of death that I find repugnant. I live in an area where civilization encroachment’s on natural regions has wiped out or driven out much of our native predators, so the deer populations were out of control for a long time. That sort of hunting I don’t have a problem with because it has a layered reasoning for its existence.

    • Maples says:

Whether a person is going to eat what they hunt or not makes no difference to the animal whose life was taken. I am sure that the life of the animal was precious to the animal as it is the only life they had. No living creature wants to be killed. All animals, endangered or not, should have the right to live free from harm. Killing animals is killing a sentient being who did not want to be killed.

    • Tina says:

They don’t eat what they kill, not even half of it. The birds in Carole’s ridiculous Boxing Day shoot last year were bred in France and imported to the UK to be shot. Pretty much every even middlingly posh restaurant here has pheasant/grouse/venison/etc on the menu, because it is so cheap.

  8. Emily says:

Meghan cannot win for losing. I remember comments along the lines of “if she likes animals so much, how can she love someone who engages in hunting just for fun!?!” Well, now he’s not and everyone’s saying it’s her fault.

    • Natalie S says:

The bar set for Meghan and Harry is to renounce their titles if they want to do charity work, become vegans if they want to do anything positive for animals, etc. The goalposts are always moved for them. And quite often, it’s the same people praising other royals for their efforts.

      • Vanessa says:

I agree completely everyday people set new rules for Meghan and Harry if only they did this or this or Harry should stop complaining and giving up his titles . The constantly need to demonzine Meghan at every turn is ridiculously When William and Kate got married everyone said they deserved their space and privacy as a newlyweds no one judge them wanting to spend time together as a family as much as possible. Why is so shocking or looked at as Harry being whipped because he wants to spend time with his pregnant wife it’s like the media and some people refused to see Harry as a grown adult man they still see him as a kid . There nothing wrong with him wanting to spend time with wife I don’t know why people are trying to make it seem weird or worst try to frame as Meghan is this controlling person it’s ridiculously . Whenever Williams wants to spend time the Middleton clan no one says oh William is whipped and Kate and her evil family are tearing apart the brother bond. Why is ok for William to spend time with his wife family all time but the moment Harry wants to spend time with his wife’s it’s looked down upon and people are calling him names .

      • Guest says:

I don’t know if you are new here, but William is always mocked and constantly criticised for spending time with the Middletons.

  9. Bren says:

I agree. No need for that at all.

  10. SABRINA says:

It is quite obvious that Kate, coming from a privileged background hasn’t have worked for anything in her life. Her lack of public speaking skills are evident and more evident is the fact that she is too lazy to do anything about it. I have social anxiety and have been working with a therapist on and off for years, have read many books and have used many techniques to overcome my fears. Why? Because I HAVE to do Networking for living or I won’t be able to continue in my well paid job. “Necessity does the work of Courage”.

Meghan, on the other side, has Oprah Winfrey’s level of connection with the public while giving a speech. Self assured, confident, charismatic, outgoing, balanced and empathic.

EMPATHY must be the difference between these two women. One, born with a silver spoon financed by mommy and daddy’s bank. The other one had to fought for everything she has accomplished.

William needed a Meghan as a future queen.

    • Saltandbake says:

Meghan attended private schools & grew up in a leafy neighbourhood. Her father worked in Hollywood & was well connected and so was her first husband. She vacationed many times in Europe as a young child. She certainly was not living on the poverty line and was still very privileged compared to the average American.

As for comparing her to Oprah…lol!

      • Natalie S says:

Kate and Meghan had some similar privileges up to when Kate met William. The Markle family toxicity being an exception to that. Kate’s A Levels results were good, she earned a Duke of Edinburgh medal (I think that’s what it’s called), she had jobs. When she began dating William, more and more her life revolved around him.

Trevor actually tried to use Meghan’s fame after she met Harry and we know that she walked away from that marriage with nothing but a blender. No one has ever attributed her casting in Suits to Trevor.

      • Valiantly Varnished says:

She also helped pay for her own college education by working while attending school. So no she wasn’t living below the poverty line but she also knows what it means to actually WORK.

      • Veronica S. says:

She’s also…you know…non-white ethnic. While she certainly benefits from being a traditionally attractive, lighter-skinned woman with African heritage, I doubt the British press is the first time she’d encountered outright or coded racism in her life. That can certainly alter your sense of privilege in the world.

  11. Piper says:

@milla making Harry look dumb was the point of the story.

To Kaisers point.. this sounds about right… since Williams “closest friends” started selling out to papers that William was worried about Harry’s new bride and “refusing to see reason” the fix is in. And Harry wants out.

    • notasugarhere says:

William’s “closest friends” means Jason and the Middletons.

    • Rosie says:

I’m no expert but someone here will know. Don’t William and Harry’s friends overlap quite a bit? Could some of this be coming from the friends who are sore about being dumped?

  12. AprilMay says:

Lolling at Will moaning about Harry spending less time with his family when he’s more Middleton then he is Windsor. As for spending less time with his friends, theyre all married with children too, having less time to spend together is only natural. And as Harrys the brother who still turns up to friends and cousins weddings and their charity gigs, maybe its Wills time spent with friends and family that should be looked at.

  13. WingKingdom says:

Nobody is going to convince me to be sad that Harry isn’t going to go out and kill animals for sport. If that’s the only way these two brothers can bond, sucks to be William.

  14. El8zq says:

Last year he skipped but went hunting in Spain a few weeks later.

I think this is about not feeling comfortable leaving Meghan with the wolves as he hunts.

  15. Jessica says:

Good on Harry. Hunting for sport should be banned. Also William lecturing Africa about hunting while carrying on hunting in the U.K. looks hypocritical.

  16. Jumpingthesnark says:

People’s interests evolve over time. If William wanted to spend some quality time with Harry, he’d reach out and they’d figure out a new activity they could do together. William’s pouting is about lack of control.

    • Becks1 says:

Yup. Bingo. If William wanted to spend time with Harry, he could. This story makes him look petty and controlling.

      • burdzeyeview says:

That’s because he is petty and controlling – I’m beginning to dislike him more and more each day.

    • Natalie S says:

I agree. I think it’s very much about lack of control that he feels entitled to being the older brother and higher in status. The older brother thing is growing pains and they’ll need to get past it.

And the higher in status thing is not a good argument for why Harry should listen to William.
He’s higher in status than Anne, but I doubt he feels the need to pout about what she does.

      • Jumpingthesnark says:

William is threatened by The Sussex’s popularity. The Queen and Charles have embraced them, in part for this exact reason, because they have the long view/survival of the monarchy in mind. The BRF will not survive if it loses favor with the British people. Popular members like the Sussex”s who work and and are able to connect with people are insurance for the BRF survival. William and the courtiers are all apparently oblivious to this, and too caught up in the petty rivalries of the moment/ protocol that not even TQ cares about/ racism etc to see the big picture.

      • windyriver says:

@Jumpingthesnark – Very well said. I tried to say something like this elsewhere, but you did a much better job.

      • Nic919 says:

Considering the onslaught of negative stories happened right after a very successful tour by Harry and Meghan, it’s definitely pointing to someone who wanted to take down Harry and Meghan a notch.

    • Berry says:

Isn’t being a control freak one of William’s strongest personality traits? He is lucky that he married someone who doesn’t seem to mind it in the least.

      • arsesds73 says:

Am I the only one who thinks this story is made up? Didn’t they report this last year as well? Milking the tension angle is what’s going. I think KP also denied this story as well.

  17. Deanne says:

Harry wants to spend time with his pregnant wife and isn’t hunting because she’s against blood sports. How dare he and isn’t she a bitch? He’s a married man and is about to become a first time Father. He’s capable of making his own decisions and I know other men who’ve stopped hunting because it upset their partner. Of course he’s not going to be spending every spare minute with his brother and old party friends. It’s ridiculous to blame Meghan because he’s acting like a grown up and not at the beck and call of his brother. I can’t imagine how Harry and Meghan feel about these idiotic smears.

  18. Rosie says:

It’s up to Harry. If he has had a rethink about hunting that’s his right, and if he’s doing it just to please his wife that’s his right. It might cause some raised eyebrows in the family just like it would in any family. I read that Sophie was very anti guns. Can’t remember the details but Meghan isn’t the only inlaw bringing in changes. Not all hunting is bad. They need to cull deer to stop them starving and it’s controlled. Not keen on blasting creatures for fun but in some cases hunting has an positive effect on the countryside and unless you work there it’s hard to judge.

  19. Anastasia says:

OMG people change??? LOL. Everyone (Will!) needs to just leave Harry and Meghan alone. Geez-o.

  20. Lisa says:

    Ridiculous.

  21. Big Eyes says:

It’s Harry’s choice if he wishes or not to hunt and shoot. For what it’s worth, the Hunt and Shoot Laws in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland are very strict (the very extensive law is available in PDF version). To make it short, one needs a license, follow the season to hunt and shoot, follow what can be hunted and shot, the carcass HAS to be picked up, cleaned for consumption, a place to store, hence hunting and shooting ranges are revised yearly. Neighbouring estates to hunting and shooting are vigilant with each other to make sure the law is followed. Trivia: the BRF hardly ‘shop’ for anything, they are ‘self sustainable with private property, duchies and crown estate produces; from hunting/shooting, and agriculture of those lands.

    • Tina says:

And all of this happens. It doesn’t mean that the carcasses are actually consumed (spoiler: many of them are not). And ‘the BRF hardly shop for anything’? Ha. Ha. Bloody ha. Kate is single-handedly keeping the King’s Road afloat. And Meghan, as much as I love her, is no shopping slouch either. (And even if you were referring only to food, both the Queen and Charles have given Fortnum & Mason Royal Warrants for a reason).

  22. Monicack says:

Shooting animals en masse. So gross.

  23. Princessk says:

I agree the modern generation do not need Katherine to be a Queen like Elizabeth is, just as Elizabeth was different from Queen Victoria. Katherine needs to be relevant for the generation she will one day be Queen over. The present Queen was good for the 50s and 60s but nobody today would be able to relate to the voice she has, which tells us all that she never mixed with outsiders and was privately tutored all her life.

Unfortunately Kate comes over as someone who has zero passion about anything, at least the Queen is passionate about horses and Diana was great people person. William tries very hard to tell us that his wife is interesting. He once told us that Kate had a great sense of humour much better than his. He should not have to tell us we should be able see her supposed great wit and humour. Why does Willam have to tell us that Heads Together was Kate’s idea, can’t she speak for herself?

    • MrsBump says:

The younger generation doesn’t need Kate anymore than they need Meghan.
Frankly her lack of passion is utterly and completely irrelevant to her position.

Do you think that the Queen & parliament is going to ask William (along with his son) to step out of the line of succession because his wife is boring and his brother’s wife is a better public speaker ?

      • PrincessK says:

I am sure that you know that I know that Kate is not the future monarch. But in these days of social media she is going to be scrutinised more than ever and focus will be on what she can do and offer. I am saying this in response to people who think that Kate should just stick to the silent dutiful wife model or the 1950s image of how royal women should look and behave. The Cambridge’s clearly want and need to be popular going forwards and Kate needs to reveal a personality.

    • notasugarhere says:

Kate is not the future monarch, so comparing her to Queen Elizabeth is pointless. She should pattern her work ethic after Philip’s. 22,000 engagements, 12 books, and 5400+ speeches in his service as consort.

  24. Janey says:

I initially read that as “Boxing Day peasant shoot”.

  25. Pandy says:

Bah. I’m not buying any of these stories!

  26. Sam says:

This just sounds like nonsense. I think sources lately are just full of it. Even if this is real, it’s such a non issue, it isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on ( so to speak).

  27. Becca says:

If I were Meghan this would probably be the thing I’d put my foot down about. ‘I’ll make an effort to go along with your traditions but I won’t support or appear to support the hunting.’

Harry’s a grown man & can go hunting if he chooses but if Meghan says she won’t go then I can see him deciding not to.

It’s not necessarily a bad thing to change your mind about something because it’s important to your spouse. Or even just to decide that you’ll give it up because it’s more important to them than it is to you.

  28. JustMe says:

So poor Willy doesn’t get to celebrate Christmas by killing animals with his brother? Boo-hoo! They’re disgusting, the whole murdering lot of them.

  29. Rosie says:

Hunting is the least troublesome family hobby. Horse racing is going to be the issue. Sheikh Mohammed is a one of the biggest landowners in the UK and has invested in a big racing complex. His horses win a lot of the classics and he rubs shoulders with royalty. His daughter Latifa was kidnapped off the coast of India in early 2018 whilst trying to escape from Dubai. She has now vanished. Years before her sister tried to escape whilst in the UK and was kidnapped from Cambridge. She is apparently kept under house arrest. I don’t know if Meghan is aware of all of this but the British Government stalled the investigation into the Cambridge kidnap so the UK establishment is not innocent . It all stinks. I don’t think I could see the sheik and not want to at least ask after his daughters, or maybe prevent him fathering another child. Meghan might want to swerve Royal Ascot etc rather than have to mix with him and his family.

    • Guest says:

Lmaooo. The Gulf families fund the Royals hobbies, one way or another. Why do you think Gulf Royal families are SO CLOSE with British Royalty? Not for nothing, I tell you. The BRF would never speak out/criticise these families, not happening. They know where their bread is buttered. Meghan was at Ascot this year, it’s actually Kate who has only shown up once or maybe twice.

      • Tina says:

The BRF take their cues from the Foreign Office. They don’t criticise the Gulf families because it’s not their place to do so.

  30. V says:

Isn’t it easy to write this stuff? Do they need “sources” and leaks from the brother who wants to smear the happy couple? It’s funny how people are selective about what believing from these tabloids, lol.

“Hunting for sport is barbaric! That American dentist was the devil! Killing creatures for fun is evil!” (Daily Mail Comments Section)
“Hunting is our royal tradition! Typical for Meghan to ruin the epitomy [sic] of what it means to be English! Harry is so whipped! (Daily Mail Comments Section)

  32. stormyshay says:

I can sympathize with the situation between the Cambridge and Sussex couples. It rings true to me that the problem is not between Meghan and Kate, instead being with William and Harry and quite possibly Kate. I think Kate and William enjoyed having Harry around for years and now that he is prioritizing his wife they are not coping well with the situation.

I am sure I am reading too much into this but I feel this happens in a lot of sibling relationships. This reminds me a lot of what occurred once my husband and I started dating. My husband was the younger brother who was very happy to go along with whatever his older brother wanted. He spent several years of being the tag-a-long with his brother and his brother’s long-term girlfriend. Everyone seemed happy with this arrangement. Personally, I always felt my brother-in-law’s girlfriend liked my husband just a little too much. I can see the appeal. My husband is laid back, good looking, and fun to be around. Once my husband and I started dating the dynamic in the relationship he had with his brother and his brother’s girlfriend completely changed. My husband having a girlfriend caused a huge rift not only in the relationship he had with his brother but also with the rest of his family. This increased after we got married and reached a fever pitch after I had our first child. His family seemed to think he was incapable of thinking for himself and I told him what to do. I find this hard to believe because if they truly knew my husband they would know he is very stubborn and does what he wants. There were many times my husband would politely decline to do something, preferring to spend time with his wife and children, and his words would be attributed to me. When the situation was relayed to other family members it would be as though I said the words instead of my husband. The situation was not helped by the fact that the family of my BIL’s girlfriend was very much like the Markle Family. They made it their mission to drag my name through the mud in an attempt to destroy me. I was stalked by members of this family and harassed on a regular basis. I am very thankful social media was not prevalent during this time because I can only imagine the abuse I would have taken online. I spent years feeling hopeless and depressed about the situation. It was not until the BIL separated from this girl that things started to get better. Today the relationship I have with my in-laws is cordial but I cannot forget the way I was treated in the past. I truly hope William and Harry find a way to repair this rift before it impacts the relationship their children have with one another.

    • Jumpingthesnark says:

I think this dynamic operates in ALOT of families, even though it isn’t talked About as much as other kinds of family dynamics. All the best wishes, patience and fortitude to everyone having to deal with it.

  33. iconoclast59 says:

Yoko Ono to Meghan: “Call me; we need to talk. I feel ya’, girl.”

  34. A says:

I think that William is dealing with the same problem every heir in this family is dealing with. They’re the heir to the throne, but have to deal with family members who constantly outshine them. The Queen and Princess Margaret, Charles and Diana, now William and Harry (& Meghan).

It’s got to be tough, tbh, when you’re supposed to be the top dog in the family. You could be incredibly charismatic, and yet the position you’re in constrains you incredibly to the point where you’re not given much space to express that. On top of it all, you have to deal with a family member who, through no fault of their own, steals your spotlight, and people prefer them to your detriment, without any sort of understanding as to the position you’re in and the balancing you have to do between your responsibilities as a future sovereign and as a person.

I honestly don’t think William gave any of this much doubt when Harry was single. I think he always kind of figured that, no matter what, Harry would remain the scapegoat and the second fiddle, while William and his needs would take center stage. That’s not the case anymore, and it’s clear that he’s dealing with it incredibly poorly, especially because it’s not just Harry who is outpacing him, but Meghan.

    • arsesds73 says:

What I genuinely don’t understand why they are doing this. No matter how popular another family member is it doesn’t change the fact that William will be king. Instead of attacking them why not work with the Sussexes so they can shine as well. Both couples I think could learn from each other and would do well as a team.

  35. Mina says:

It’s always the harpies’ fault! The royal gossip really couldn’t be more sexist.
